Someone else set up my blog for me. In

Someone else set up my blog for me. In February, she transferred it to me, but she’s still listed as a user and administrator. I’d like to take her off completely, but I keep getting the message that ‘there was an error updating @njiwasa.’ Please help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, if she set up the site, the only way you would be able to remove her is if she transferred ownership of the site to you following this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/transferring-a-site-to-another-wordpress-com-account/

Once she does that, she’ll lose access to the site. If you want her back as an Admin or any other user role, you’d need to invite her.

Let us know if you have any other question.

The ownership was transferred to me in February. At that time, there was a problem, because I had another email address ((email visible only to moderators and staff)), and we were transferring to (email visible only to moderators and staff). At the time, the transfer was made to my username, natalieiwasa, and that was confirmed. How do I remove the user @njiwasa?

Hello again, I’ve gone ahead and tagged this thread for Staff assistance. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.

  • Hi there –

I can see that your user account was added to be another Administrator on the site in question. The actual ownership of it though is still under @njiwasa, as well as the custom design upgrade.

How do we change that? We thought it was done in February.

  • Hi there,

I don’t see anything on that blog’s log about ownership transfer.

To remove that user from your blog, you need to ask them to transfer ownership (not just make you an administrator). Here’s how to do it:

She went through those steps in February. Here’s what she sent to me then:

I just got a reply to a question I asked of WP support on the problem transferring to your green one email address. Apparently, when you “registered” as a WP user, you also used your (email visible only to moderators and staff) address and, as such, the transfer wuldn’t go through to green one. Transfers are only allowed among registered users.

So I did a transfer to your USERNAME as shown in the WP blog account I had set up — natalieiwasa. It appears to be going through since I’ve now confirmed it, but the confirming email on your side will go to (email visible only to moderators and staff). So you may want to log in and change your user profile — you’ve always had those privileges since the day I set up the account, so you can do it any time.

  • For the blog transfer to be completed, you need to click on a link sent to the email address associated with your WordPress.com account. You can find that email address here:

    https://wordpress.com/me/account

Is there any way to administratively override this? I contacted the prior owner, and she said she no longer has the login information — she thought she was all done with the blog. Her email address is listed under the profile njiwasa. My goal is to just remove her email address, so she no longer receives notifications from my blog.

  • We need the previous owner to contact us in order to accomplish that.
