Someone else's blog took over my blog name

I have had some ongoing problems with my domain at a different hosting company, although I had the same blog name–I was using WordPress.org.–Since February 2011. Because of my concerns, I moved here recently. I just searched for my blog title, “America and the World” and another blog came up. However, it is just archived posts from “The Storyteller” with nothing about America and the World in the original posts. So it looks like it was done on purpose. By the way, the opinions on the Storyteller blog are a complete turn-around from mine. I immediately changed the name of my blog, but now I regret it–I had the name first.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello there,
This is a technical support forum for those who have issues with WordPress.com software. Exactly what do you want help with? Please provide details.

It’s not clear in your list that this is technical support only. I didn’t think my problem was unclear, but maybe it was. Thanks anyway.

@hammy64000, unless you trademarked the name, there is not much that can be done about it. If you had looked further you would have also discovered that there is an actual company by that name in Denver Colorado, and since they are incorporated, they most likely have rights to that name.

America and the World, Inc. is an education company in Denver. When we opened our virtual doors in 2002, it was to offer customized online textbooks to colleges and universities. Since then we have expanded into the secondary school market, providing literacy curriculum to middle and high schools across the country.

One other thing from their website:

America and the World and americaandtheworld.com are registered trade names of America and the World, Incorporated.

That means in theory they could come back on you for using that name on your blog since they have the registered trademark.

Okay, I admit that is shocking–but why did you use that name on WordPress.com as a blog title when it was just listings of articles from The Storyteller?

Also I changed my blog title, so please don’t sue me.

In other words, shouldn’t The Storyteller be the blog title? It makes no difference to me though…I changed my name. Please see above…:-/

Okay, I checked the website. The only thing that mentions the age of it is in the intro. paragraph, which you pasted in your answer. The Storyteller articles were old, although I can no longer pull it up on a WordPress search–but archived articles could have been put on WordPress at any time. I remember the date, 2009 but again I can’t check. The .com page is here: http://www.americaandtheworld.com/ The page seems to have changed since I first saw it though, so maybe the date isn’t there. It says the copyright belongs to America and the World, Inc., but there is no website for Inc.

Also, I have Googled America and the World in the past and these entries didn’t come up. My blog came up every time.

I’m sorry but I cannot determine what WordPress.com issue you want us to help you with here.

Timethief, I was responding to Thesacredpath, but thanks for asking. I would like to add that it looks like America and The World Inc. doesn’t have a street address. The address listed on the corporation records for Denver is the same as the one on the website, which is the address of their registered agent.

I’m curious–the title of this thread according to my email messages is Someone else's blog took over my blog name. But I didn’t say &#039–Has that been changed or is it something I don’t know about on WordPress? Thanks.

  • Unknown's avatar

I copied and pasted it but the cussing part didn’t paste–The title on my email said Someone else’s&#039 blog…Just wondering if it’s on the web that way. That would be rude, even for me. Thanks again.

People can name their blogs whatever they want, even the name that is a registered trademark, as long as they don’t get caught.
