  Someone else’s website accidentally got set up in my account. How do I switch it to theirs?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Thank you! Sounds easy, but I tried it and it won’t let me transfer to the account I want to transfer to. It doesn’t say why, just “You cannot transfer to that user.” Tried it with both the full email address and with just the user name.

  What is the site’s URL, and to which user do you want to transfer it?

  Something you can try is to first invite the other user to be an admin on the site, and then transfer it after they’ve accepted the invitation.

  Tried doing the invitation thing, and it wanted them to set up another website before they could become an administrator on this one. I’ll set5 up a dummy website if I have to, but was hoping for a cleaner solution. Site is starrylaneapiary.wordpress.com, and I’m trying to transfer it to (email visible only to moderators and staff), which we set up specifically to be the access point of this website.

  Okay, you will first need to create a new username account with that email address before you will be able to transfer the site to that account. You can use the following link to create an account without also creating a new site:

  https://wordpress.com/start/account/user/

  Make sure to log out of this account before creating the new account.

  Note that the username matching that blog’s address won’t be available when you create a new account, so you’ll need to select a different username for the new account. However, after you have transferred the blog to the new account you should be able to change the username of that account to match the blog’s address.

  Thanks, that works. Hard to find where to sign out of the WordPress account, though. Appreciate all the help.

  Click on the profile picture top-right in the admin bar, or visit https://wordpress.com/me

  The signout link appears underneath the profile picture.
