Someone has requested a password reset
-
Hello!!!
I need your help. In less than 24 hours I’ve got 2 emails with the following text:
Someone has requested a password reset
Obviously, this has set up my alarms, and I don’t know what to do. Should I change my username? I just changed my password 2 days ago and now I got this.
Please, help me…..
Thanks

Hi,
I just changed my password 2 days ago and now I got this
I suspect that changing your password might have prompted the email messages from WordPress.com. It’s probably a security check. If you hadn’t requested the password reset, then the email messages would be notifying you that someone other than you had tried to reset the password.
I’ve tagged the topic for staff attention. Perhaps staff can better explain the reason for the messages. Staff will respond here.

@emignalec I see you’ve got 2FA enabled. Good — I was going to recommend that.
If someone else is trying to gain access, you might see notifications for a few days. But, they can’t do anything without access to your email AND your phone, so you can likely ignore those. If they don’t give up after a while, let us know.

When I reset my account password recently, I received the following note in an email message from WordPress.com:
Someone recently requested that the password be reset for musicdoc1.
followed by a reset button and the following advice:
If this is a mistake just ignore this email – your password will not be changed.

Makes sense. Usually though that’ll more closely coincide with the password reset.
@emignalec, it’s possible the email was just delayed. If you continue to get emails that worry you though, please update us and we’ll check into this further.
