Someone is impersonating me
-
Someone is using the moniker ‘Nicolai N. Petro’ to post malicious commentary on Dr. Gilbert Doctorow’s site (https://gilbertdoctorow.com/). I learned about this by accident this week, and Dr. Doctorow has since confirmed that it has occurred multiple times. As you can see from my actual account (nnpetro), I have not posted commentary on WordPress since 2010. Moreover, I never post comments, and have no social media accounts.
It is important to know if ‘Nicolai N. Petro’ has hacked my email account — (email visible only to moderators and staff) — or is simply pretending to be me. To know this, it should suffice to see what address they used to sign in when posting their comments.
I have also asked my university’s cyber security department to investigate this matter.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Hi there:
WordPress comment forms don’t check for or verify any username, email, or other identifying information if a comment is made when not logged into a WordPress.com account. It has nothing to do with your email or whether or not someone has unauthorized access – anyone can enter any information they choose whether it’s their actual information or not.
If you need more information about the commenter in question, the blog owner would have that information (email address and IP address used) under their Comments dashboard. You would need to contact them directly for that information.
I hope that clarifies things.

The blog owner deleted these posts. Is it still possible for him to access this email and IP address informaton from the Comments dashboard, after that?
