Someone is reposting all my posts as his own
-
I have had my “06880” blog for a couple of years — I post 1 or 2 times a day with original content about the town of Westport, CT 06880 (http://06880danwoog.com). Recently, someone named “Aaron Meyer” has been reposting everything on his WordPress site: http://aaronmeyer.generalweblog.com/ He gives no credit to “06880” (though sometimes that reference appears in my own posts); the photos don’t come through — and every post says “by aaronmeyer.”
He has no contact info on his site. I have used the comment section several times to ask him to please credit me and/or “06880” — but his comments are moderated, and I have received no response.
What are my options? THANKS!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Option # 1 is real easy – just report the blog to the Terms of Service Group – at the top of the page is the Gray Bar – click on Blog Info and report it as Spam – give a full report of what is happening (your site – their site etc) – there are several other options but the TOS people take things like your complaint very seriously – you are lucky that this is all in the family so to speak.

auxclass is right. Report this contant thief. ToS violations at wordpress.com are taken seriously, so seriously that those who do not comply with copyright can have their blogs suspended or even deleted.

Awesome info — THANKS! (I had searched under “blog reposting” and couldn’t find anything — I should have looked under “content theft” — who knew?!)

@dwoog, http://aaronmeyer.generalweblog.com/ is a self-hosted wordpress blog which means you are going to have for contact the person directly or contact their web host and file a DMCA violation notice.
This is the whois information on the web host that site is on.
http://www.networksolutions.com/whois-search/sitkom.cz
http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/registry-data.jsp?domain=sitkom.czSince it is outside the US, how successful you will be in getting them shut down is anyone’s guess, but you can try.

Opps – Thanks TSP I neglected to double check the offending blog – good catch but bad news for @dwoog as they have more work to do –
Depending on how the content theft is being done setting your RSS feed to Summery might make them work harder to steal your content.
Dashboard >> Settings >> Reading >> For Each article in a Feed Show Summery.
Good luck

@racehelmetea, the copyright or creative commons licensing does nothing to stop content theft. It just defines under what conditions, if any, someone can use your material. I have full copyright statements on my site and I’m continually having to file DMCA violation notices. Scrapers pay not attention to copyright and licenses at all.

THANKS to all. I will continue to hunt this down. One more question: Why would anyone want to re-post something from a hyperlocal blog? What does he (or they) get out of it? Is this something to worry about, or is it just an annoyance?
-
@dwoog – you do realize that @superhelperx is a serial spammer and you won’t click on the link, right?

You might consider looking into this problem on Google as well. Sites with duplicate content can removed from the search engines.
So you might want to tell them as well as WP that your stuff is being lifted in case you end up getting removed from the search engines as well as the copycat.
A word of warning though the support forums for Google have some very grumpy people on them.

It might not be an actual person doing the updating but an aggregator pulling all these posts.

THANK YOU all again. This could be one of those have-to-live-with-it situations. I was originally thrown off because I do know a person named Aaron Meyers, and this site was “Aaron Meyer” — why would some I know be doing this, and ignoring my requests to stop, I wondered. Your explanations have been helpful, and very clarifying. Much appreciated!
