  • Unknown's avatar

    I have been contacted by an unknown source asking if they can use my domain name. I pay for the domain name http://www.anounceofme.com but it seems that isn’t enough. Please view conversation below and advise if you can. Many thanks

    Dear CEO,
    (If you are not the person who is in charge of this, please forward this to your CEO, because this is urgent, Thanks)
    We are a Network Service Company which is the domain name registration center in Shanghai, China.
    We received an application from Huayu Ltd on March 26, 2015. They want to register ” anounceofme ” as their Internet Keyword and ” anounceofme .cn “、” anounceofme .com.cn ” 、” anounceofme .net.cn “、” anounceofme .org.cn ” domain names etc.., they are in China domain names. But after checking it, we find ” anounceofme ” conflicts with your company. In order to deal with this matter better, so we send you email and confirm whether this company is your distributor or business partner in China or not?

    Best Regards,

    Hi Jim
    http://www.anounceofme.com is a registered domain name that I pay for myself. I am not employed by or in anyway connected to anyone else in China or anywhere else. http://www.anounceofme.com is the website I pay for to run as my blog and I am concerned that another company wishes to use it as a Keyword as I am trying to raise my profile online and this will inhibit this.
    Please can you keep me updated on what happens.
    Kind regards

    Dear Lauren Edwards,

    Based on your company having no relationship with them, we have suggested they should choose another name to avoid this conflict but they insist on this name as CN domain names (cn/ com.cn/ net.cn/ org.cn) and internet keyword on the internet. In our opinion, maybe they do the similar business as your company and register it to promote his company.
    According to the domain name registration principle: The domain names and internet keyword which applied based on the international principle are opened to companies as well as individuals. Any companies or individuals have rights to register any domain name and internet keyword which are unregistered. Because your company haven’t registered this name as CN domains and internet keyword on the internet, anyone can obtain them by registration. However, in order to avoid this conflict, the trademark or original name owner has priority to make this registration in our audit period. If your company is the original owner of this name and want to register these CN domain names (cn/ com.cn/ net.cn/ org.cn) and internet keyword to prevent anybody from using them, please inform us. We can send an application form and the price list to you and help you register these within dispute period.

    Kind regards
    Jim

    Dear Lauren Edwards,
    We have not heard from you since our last comunication. Since your company haven’t registered this name as CN domains (cn/ com.cn/ net.cn/ org.cn) and internet keyword on the internet, anyone can obtain them by registration. You must know the domain names and internet keyword which applied based on the international principle are opened to companies as well as individuals. Also, we have suggested they should choose another name but they are persistent in this name. As a domain name registrar, we have no rights to refuse their application if they insist. In this situation, we have told you your company have the priorty in registering CN domains and internet keyword in our audit period. Could you tell us whether or not your company want to register these CN domain names and internet keyword to prevent anyone from using them? If your company need to register these names in china, we can send an application form and the price list to you and help you register these within dispute period.
    Best Regards

    Hi there.

    I’d advice you to be wary of the emails you’re receiving. If you search online, you’ll find numerous reports from people receiving similar messages regarding Chinese domains, here are some examples:

    * http://squelchdesign.com/web-design-newbury/chinese-domain-name-registration-scams/

    * http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/spot-chinese-domain-name-scam/

    * http://www.europeandomaincentre.com/pages/news-room/domain-management-news/hey!-got-an-email-from-china-domain-name-registration-center-asian-domain-registration-service-in-china-the-department-of-registration-service-in-china-etc.#.VSZRUhPF-OJ

    No one will be able to register anounceofme.com while it’s active on your account, it belongs to you. It will be possible for people to register other available domains, such as anounceofme.cn, anounceofme.gov, anounceofme.br etc. However, it’s not necessary to own every single variation of your domain’s name and the warnings about SEO given in the emails you received shouldn’t be taken seriously.

    Let me know if you have any extra questions around this. I’ll be happy to help further.

    Hi!
    Thank you so much for your prompt reply and your very useful advice. I was of the opinion that it felt like a scam with the fact he has suggested I pay them for the domain to stay as mine. It is good to know that my http://www.anounceofme.com remains safe.
    You have put my mind at rest.
    Many thanks
    Lauren
