someone logged into my account?
-
I was not even aware I had this account. I was on someone else’s website and saw my picture in a circle in the top right corner. Clicked on it and found this message: ‘Someone logged into your account with an E-mail login link. Please make sure your e-mail account is secure!’ No date or any other information with the message. How am I supposed to know if I logged into this account at some point, when I don’t have any more information beyond just this statement?

Hi there,
An email login link is used to bypass entering a password to enter your WordPress.com account by being able to log in just by clicking a link in your email, unless you are using 2 Step Verification.
If you believe that somebody has compromised your account or you are at risk of your account being compromised, changing your password to ensure it is a strong one is the best thing to do: https://en.support.wordpress.com/selecting-a-strong-password/
I’d also suggest highly recommend using 2 Step Verification: https://en.support.wordpress.com/security/two-step-authentication/
Also, ensure you turn on two step authentication on your email – I can’t stress enough how important that can be, regardless of what other services you use. If you need help with doing that, let us know your email provider and we’ll try to assist.
This will help keep your account very secure, but for this issue, I’m tagging WordPress.com staff to check for suspicious activity. In terms of if it’s you, though the WordPress.com team can check for suspicious activity, if you remember clicking a link which was emailed to you to log into your WordPress.com account, it’s probably you. Nonetheless, it’s still best to follow these security tips.
Let us know if you have any further questions or issues. :)

Hi there,
I don’t see any suspicious activity on your account, but I suggest following the instructions on how to secure your account that @torres126 provided.
If you have any other questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.

Thanks for your responses. The thing is, I don’t even remember setting up a wordpress.com account. I am thinking my website uses wordpress.org.
If I have a wp.com account, I don’t have the first idea how to get into it, or what information might be in there. Do you have any instructions as to how to check if my website is tied into wp.org or wp.com? Or how to find what all is in my profile or account w/ wp.com?
If wp.com is not something I need for my website, I am inclined to think my time would be better spent deleting whatever account I may have opened, rather than setting up two step verification and changing my password (whatever that is). Please advise. Thanks for your time.

Hi there,
The WordPress.com account you’re using to post here was created in February 2016. The last email-login in our logs was ten months ago, and is most likely the same login session you’re still logged in as: The reason you saw your profile picture at the top of the site is because you were viewing a WordPress.com site, which means the admin bar at the top would display the information for the WordPress.com account you’re logged into.
There are no sites connected to this account – this account has never owned any WordPress.com sites, and you’ve never had a self-hosted site connected to this account via the Jetpack plugin. So deleting this account won’t have any effect on any sites you have elsewhere.
You can request account closure from the account settings page:
