Someone trying to login to my blog so I want to install Sucuri Security Plugin
-
I have a (free) blog on wordpress.com and noticed on my stats page that there was a redirect to the login page by someone overnight which I assume was an attempt to hack into the site.
I’ve researched various preventions and it looks like my best option is to install the Sucuri security plugin. I can see the plugin but the ‘install’ button is greyed out so I can’t install it. However, it says it’s free to all WordPress users.
If I can’t install this plugin, is there anything I can do to prevent unauthorised users getting access to my site?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
By design WordPress.com hosted sites are secure, however, in addition to the security measures taken by WordPress, it’s recommended you do the same by following the instructions in this guide:
When it comes to installing third-party plugins, a WordPress.com Business Plan is required for this.

I had a read of that this morning thanks. My blog isn’t a business, it’s just a hillwalking blog so doesn’t really merit a business plan.
Do you know if the 2-stage login process can still just send a text to my mobile – it’s not the kind of phone which has ‘apps’ as it’s just an emergency phone for on the hill. Getting a signal (even at home) is a real problem though…

Yes. Two Factor Authentication sends an SMS message straight to your phone, you don’t need a fancy phone to use it.
You can set it up here: https://wordpress.com/me/security/two-step
As long as you have a fairly stable phone signal and can receive SMS messages, 2FA will be a great way to add an extra layer of security to your account.
