Something Goofy Today June 24, 2017 unable to add text to articles

  • Unknown's avatar

I can upload photos to my account but as far as adding text, it just will not accept. I have tried both cutting and pasting from a Word doc and even typing manually in the text field but to no avail. I am really getting sick of these little quirks and no one in their “Happiness Engineers” department on weekends anymore. So who do we ask on a Saturday or Sunday for help with a PREMIUM subscription?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello again, thank you for being civil. :)

Being a premium subscriber, have you posted a support ticket about this through your dashboard? Live Chat is available on the weekends on a limited basis. If available you will see it here: https://wordpress.com/help/contact

Can you say how you are posting? What device? Are you posting in the browser or via an app? What version of that? If the browser, are you posting in the WP Admin Editor or the Calypso Editor (new dashboard)? All these little details will assist.

    Other things to try:
    1. Make sure your web browser is up to date.
    2. Try logging out of WordPressdotcom, clearing your browser’s cache and cookies (which will also log you out of any other site you are logged in to) and then logging back in.
    3. The other browser troubleshooting tips in this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/

  • Hi –

I’ll be happy to help fix this up. First, I have a few questions to gather more details about your setup.

Are you working form an app? Which device and version number?

Is this happening in a web browser? Please share the type and version number.

Let’s make sure that we are looking at the same site. Is it notoriousluxury.com that you’re needing help with?

When accessing wordpress.com/help/contact/ you should be prompted to send in an email ticket to support if chat is full.

Hi! That’s just it. I am NOT working from any app, no iPhone, nothing out of the ordinary. It is my notoriousluxury.com domain on a desktop and my laptop. I tried both to see if it was my computers. I even called my internet service provider to check to see if there was a problem. I even called my next-door neighbor who is a computer IT person for his company and an experienced computer geek. The first thing he told me was that “no, it is NOT anything you are doing, it is WordPress that has the issues.” I am really getting sick of this. I went thru computer hell when you guys introduced “the new editor” I tried posting using it and then I realized there was NO spell check AND I couldn’t click on the photos after I posted to enlarge them.

But this new issue that is going on with WordPress has been going on since last Thursday evening. I didn’t report it until late Friday night when I saw this issue had not corrected itself. Now, today, June 25, 2017…It won’t even allow me to do anything. I try to enter and preview and it will not do anything. WHAT IS WRONG! I have had enough of WordPress…I have been silent, just letting the issues resolve themselves but this is the last straw! What did you guys do this time behind the scenes? And this “Happiness Engineer” title needs to be changed, it’s a mockery when we are trying to work on the platform and have all of these strange things going on. When did the weekend live chat end? Yes, I do have a PREMIUM service. I am tired of this! How do I get credit for 4 days out of service? I am mad enough this time to switch to another platform, I am tired of WordPress…so are many, many, many others all over the globe!

Hello again, I understand you are upset. However did you attempt any of the suggestions I gave you in my above reply?

In order to stay on track to try and resolve this issue, please answer the questions you’ve been asked in this thread by both @lizkarkowski and myself.

    1. Posting through laptop and desktop. PC or Mac?
    2. Posting via web browser. What browser and version?
    3. Posting in WP Admin Editor or Calypso (new) Editor?

The more concrete information you can give anyone trying to help you sort out a problem, the more likely it will get resolved.

Mornin’ folks! Here is what I have done so far: 1) I use a Google Chrome browser on my desktop which has never been an issue with WordPress. It is an HP top of the line with 1TB storage and is very very fast. 2) I switched browsers on the laptop to see if this would work to the Microsoft Edge browser…still NO LUCK. I am the only editor using the WP Admin on both…NO LUCK. 3) I even tried the new posting editor on both Chrome and 4) Edge…I even switched to 5) Firefox…still nothing. Are you saying I am the only one with this issue?

I don’t have anything strange hooked up to either laptop or desktop. I even switched to a completely different laptop to check trying all browsers. WordPress will upload photos but no text and it is pissing me off! This has been going on since last Thursday and the more I mess with it the more pissed off I am!!!! I have tried everything shy of flying backwards thru hell with a can of lighter fluid….it will not add text! When I preview it has the photos and a big black space where the text is supposed to be. I haven’t done anything new with my computers. It is the same way I have been using since 2013 when I signed up for WordPress. I want to post to my platform today…this really really really really has me in an extremely bad mood!!!!!!!

I am on the laptop now and I can’t even get WP to “preview” it switches to “404 not found” sometimes, other times it just sits there. I am going into the computer room where I have the desktop set up. I am sick of all of this, I really am! Am I the only one having this issue?

OK! You guys made me think. I am an accountant by day. The system we use is called “CITRIX” and it has many many servers like WordPress. If you get a “busy” server it stalls out. I learned how to overcome this situation by signing onto many servers at once leaving the stalled servers trying to connect…eventually a server comes into use that’s without issues but I have to leave the bad connections up. I did the same thing this morning to WordPress. I went into the computer room and signed onto the desktop, signing on to WordPress but leaving the “bad” servers trying to connect. I kept signing onto WordPress until I got a “good” connection…but I left the ones with the issues alone. I can now not only upload the photos but the text as well!

I didn’t think of this until you guys asked me those questions about trying different combinations of anecdotes!!! I cannot thank you enough! WordPress can be a “suicide-inducing” platform to work with. Ever since you guys added that new editor and all of the secret upgrades, it has made my life a living hell. I learned many tricks to overcome the system’s shortcomings. Now I have added this technique as well to the list. I would never have thought of this had you not made the suggestions that you did! Maybe I can share these tricks with other users that have problems. I have found many ways around the crap WordPress dishes out!

Thanks guys! You saved me from a weekend of sheer torment! Please pardon the last few comments I made that are completely rude and condescending. But WordPress had me slammed against a brick wall and I had no idea what to do until now. Maybe you all can do something about the busy/bad server issues. I hope this trick can help others. I see now, the key is to leave the bad connections alone and just keep opening new tabs and signing into new sessions until you get a good one. Sounds goofy but sometimes goofy situations call for goofy remedies! Thanks again for making new insight for me!

  • Howdy –

Thank you for posting this update and I’m happy to hear that you were able to work it out.

Can you share your connection speeds? Go to speedtest.net for the results.

WordPress.com works all over the world on different levels of internet quality.

I’m also curious if you have any browser extensions enabled? This could be running interference too.
