Something incredibly annoying about some WordPress domains…
-
On multiple occasions now I’ve run into the rather annoying snag of wanting o register a new blog domain, only to find that someone else has “already registered it”.
Well, thats all well and good, first come, first serve. I’ll play along. But in EVERY CASE that I’ve experienced this the “occupied” domain leads to a completely static site with no posts, hell no title even, just that almost taunting “hello world” banner. Most occasions they’re ancient, just today I wanted to register a new domain only to find a non-blog that only has one post, the default test frame for new blogs….from September 2005.
Can something be done about this? Doing away with ancient static domains that clearly have no use to their owners or anyone else? Some people actually have ambitions to do with things with their sites, not just to waste them and keep others from using the domain.
I know this is probably an unresolvable problem, but having been troubled by it too many times I’d just like to get it out there.

I understand how you feel. IMO it’s best for you to wait for support hours to open tomorrow and send your request into staff for consideration. http://wordpress.com/contact-support/

I don’t know for sure, but staff have said many times in the past that they are sticking with no recycling of names for several reasons, so sending them in a support request won’t do anything about it. They could answer better, but I think they won’t do anything about it.

sometimes people had big plans, but then life intervened. :(

One problem is people who choose to require login to post comments, so someone wanting to comment has to come up with a username and, by default, a wordpress domain.

Here is the standard reply to “Can I have that blog”
We do not give dormant/unused blogs to others, nor do we recycle them.
If you want a blog, leave a comment and ask the owner to get in touch.
They can give you the blog as it is theirs.
We do not give any contact information out so a comment is the only way to go. -

Excuse me, but it is different than domain names. At least with a domain name, it will expire and you have contact information with the “owner” of the domain name.
VALID POINT: If the “owner” has let the blog go dormant, why would we ever think there is more than a slim chance that the “owner” will ever see a comment placed there?
I have a comment on a blog name I want, but there hasn’t been any response to my comment.
I have a blog name in mind that I know someone else “aquired” just to block me from getting it. I say, “Oh, well.”
Thank you for regurgitating the support line. Saves me from dragging them through it again. I know they are busy with important things.

Because they’ve done it before, and the original owner, who wasn’t aware of the reallocation, wanted it back.
