SOmething is wrong with categories and header

  I’m trying to build a website using WordPress. I’m deleteing the blog option as I don’t want one.
  The template is installed directly into my directory http://www.assured-drylining.co.uk
  I added a home page but now there are two links on menu, the initial one is a category which I presume was already there.
  I’ve tried to start again but I can’t seem to get rid of it.
  The second problem is how do I get rid of the search option? As I’m not having a blog there’s no need for that either.
  Any ideas much appreciated.
