Something is wrong with my signing in

  • Unknown's avatar

My sign in isn’t working. I appear to be signed in, my name is uptop, but the edit feature is gone. This happened once before, and as I was looking around, for some reason I x-ed out of wordpress and had to sign back in, and then I had edit back. So I tried that again this time, but it didn’t work. So I went to Help, and got to a page that explained only people with upgrades could get help like this from our happiness engineers (sob), and invited me to sign in from that page to prove I had upgrades, and when I did that, my edit came back again! And yet not with the regular log in!

    So whaz up???

    Hi there,

I’m not really familiar with the issue which you’re describing, however if you ever have problems with editing your site, you can always go directly to your Dashboard to edit any of your pages or posts.

To get to your Dashboard, you can go to your WordPress.com site and then add “wp-admin” to the end of it.

    So for example:

    http://thewhitelilyblog.com/wp-admin

This will take you directly to your site’s Dashboard where you should be able to edit everything.

Hello, thanks for your attention. However, I am already going from my dashboard to the posts. The problem happens when I click on a post from my dashboard and the new window opens. It is the page on the site of the post, and under the title of the post, on the right of the date, there is (usually) the word Edit. This location may depend on the theme, in my case Benevolance, but it must appear somewhere on every post in any theme, because this is the only way to get to the edit screen, as far as I know. This word/link Edit has been gone two times, and both times the problem was eventually solved by signing in again, in which case the word Edit reappears, I can click on it, and in the proper edit screen, work. When the word edit was gone, the blog still had my name up top as if I were signed in, I could go to the dashboard, empty spam, etc. Everything except edit. I can’t seem to make this condition happen, but am always anxious when it does, as I must caroom around closing wordpress and re-opening it and signing in again and again. The second time I couldn’t get signing in to work until I signed in, as I said, from a Help screen that was asking me to prove I had upgrades before I could contact a happiness helper person. Then suddenly, with that signing in (I visited a post to see what happened, as I had been doing about twenty prior attempts), the word Edit was back.

By the way, I don’t get to wp dashboard the way you gave. I go http://thewhitelilyblog.wordpress.com/admin

It has always worked, I get the sign in screen. Could this be the problem???

    Hi there,

In that case, if the “Edit” word is missing on those pages then you are getting signed out of WordPress.com. It may be that your browser is set to expire our cookies quickly (this is frequently the case in browsers like Internet Explorer which might have their security settings set high).

    Dear Almighty,

Well, I enabled cookies, so let us see. I like to use Explorer, because my little blog looks better in e than in Chrome. But let’s see if changing the cookies will keep me signed in.

Thank you for your attention. If it’s the custom of this land, given the resolution, would you select the option that the problem is resolved? One does appreciate such kind help. And goodlooking! : )
