Something odd about handling of PDFs …

PDF documents that I create from an app (EasyABC) can be opened OK on my PC but if I upload them to my WordPress website and then download them they can’t be opened. If I first open them in Acrobat or PDF24 and save them without making any changes before uploading to WordPress they can then be downloaded and opened. This page https://almeleysteadysession.wordpress.com/pdf-test-page/ has examples of links to two PDFs, one will open and the other will not.
    Any suggestions?

It just means a pdf created using EasyABC, is for some reason incompatable with regular pdf files.

The PDFs can be opened by every PDF reader or editor that I have tried BUT can not be opened if they are uploaded to WordPress. Pretty obviously there’s something different about the PDF that WordPress doesn’t like, or something that WordPress does to those particular PDFs – I was hoping for some insight from someone who understands WordPress PDF handling.

  • @davesawdon – When clicking a PDF link from any website web browsers attempt to load the PDF using PDF support built into the browser itself. Meaning, for this issue it’s not your site or WordPress that’s causing the error, it’s the web browser’s incompatibility with that PDF file. Adobe talks about this default web browser behavior here.

I like your test page; very helpful, thank you! I recommend sticking with creating PDFs that browsers have compatibility with.

If you’re concerned about it, feel free to reach out to EasyABC support to let them know of the incompatibility and sharing your test page so they can see for themselves. :)
