“Something went wrong. Visit site admin”

I published my website this morning and point my domain name server to my WordPress.com hosted site. The site is live and accessible through my domain, but when I log into WordPress to keep working on the site, I’m unable to access my pages. When I go to the Pages tab, it shows that there are 9 pages published, but I can’t see them and the page tells me “You haven’t published any pages yet.” When I go to Settings/General, I get a message that says, “Something went wrong. Visit site admin”. I’m unable to request help via chat or email from the WordPress platform because it shows “Unknown site” and will not let me submit my chat or email message.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This issue seemed to happen after I made my domain, which is registered with an external provider, my primary site address. Prior to that, my primary was the free wpcopstaging.com address.

  • Hey there,

Many thanks for reaching out. It looks like this is happening due to domain propagation, (i.e. the time it takes for the domain DNS settings to connect to WordPress.com servers) which can take from 24-72 hours to complete.

I can see that everything is as it should be on the site, which indicates that this is the case.

I’d recommend temporarily switching the primary domain back to the wpcomstaging domain via Upgrades > Domains, if you’re need to access these pages for edits.

Failing that, you could clear the browser cache (https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache) and/or wait to see if you’re able to edit pages under the new domain in a few hours.

Rest assured, it doesn’t look like there’s anything awry with the site set up. :)
