SongSpot doesn’t work on sidebar

  • Unknown's avatar

I followed the rule, uncheck the visual rich text thing on my profile and copied the songspot code on my text widget sidebar, there is nothing appear.

    Somehow can’t work?
    Can anyone help me please?

…I don’t want to drag the widget already given because i wanna have vertical layout…etc.

Can you post the code you’re using please? Don’t forget to use backticks. :)

    EDIT:
Actually, is that the new service they’ve just added?

I haven’t looked at it yet..

It is the new service. I wanted to make a post using a song earlier, but couldn’t find one I liked.

The selection seems rather small and searching for a song is a bit random (read difficult).

I used the WP widget and Songspot is now loaded and working very well. Using the widget did not prevent me from choosing the size and alignment of the layout. Check it out: it’s beautiful.

    Thanks~~

Does having that widget hurt people with dial-up and slow down one’s site?

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m on dial-up right now and can confirm the answer is yes. Fortunately the text loads first, and then I click the stop button.

Because I can’t be bothered to spend hours downloading Flash onto this machine I haven’t actually been subjected to any music yet. I can’t say I’m upset about that, since if I wanted background music I’d be on MySpace.

It would hurt people on dial-up if you have to play automatically instead of allowing your visitors to click the play button.

  • Unknown's avatar

Oh, no. I don’t want my site to be sluggish, but I love the sound of the music being played at opening.

  • Unknown's avatar

playing music automatically is a bad idea. you have no idea if the person visiting your site is already listening to music, or if they are viewing your site in a place were listening to music out loud is frowned upon.

it’s far better to let them choose to play the song.

also, a fair amount of the download time is the player itself, so if you’re concerned about dial-up users, you should put the player under a <!-- more --> tag. (sorry wank)

Your points are well taken, Sunburntka. I believe I will change my site so that the music doesn’t come on automatically. A shame, though, it’s so pretty. :)

I heard most people in the world have dial up. That’s why I don’t understand the sites on my blogroll and elsewhere that have the full sized pictures instead of thumbnail. This one site has thumbnail but when clicked, it’s like 2,000 – 3,000 pixels wide!
