    Yes, it looks that way:

Now we need some feedback from WordPress about a replacement for the Sonific widget. WordPress must find new ways for us…

omg…thanks a lot!! i hope they don’t sell my e-mail and contact information to make quick buck.

I wonder how widely used Sonific was at WordPress.com? I get the impression that a lot of people searched Sonific for the music they wanted to put on their blogs, found that it wasn’t there, and ended up not using Sonific.
Sonific’s Going Offline message (@universal, tx for the link) makes it look as though that was Sonific’s problem more generally. They couldn’t get enough music without giving vital organs, first-born children, etc., to the record labels in return.

I am one of the bloggers who loved sonific and used their service since I started my blog. They were very helpful and replied to every email I wrote to them in a very professional and friendly manner.

Some of my blog visitors said that sometimes they visit my blog just to check the new music that I choose from sonific and they they keep my blog on their screen just to enjoy listening to the nice music.

I used to match the post content with the music and most of the time I come up with a nice comination .. I am just wondering now what will replace this great service!

A little word from staff would be nice. I don’t use Sonific myself but music questions are very frequent here in the threads. I guess WordPress.com can’t garantie a replacement but it would be a little reassuring to know if staff are working on finding a new system?

Hi this is Gerd Leonhard, CEO of Sonific. Sorry to do this to all those faithful WordPress Sonific users out there. We will of course NOT sell your email addresses because of this! You can read updates here: http://gerdleonhard.typepad.com/songspotting/ Thanks again for using Sonific. Here is a post on other social music tools, from my blog http://www.mediafuturist.com/2008/04/social-music-li.html

Thank you gleonhard for your comment. That was very considerate of you. We are very sorry to see Sonific go. I hope all employees will be ok…

I wanted to use imeem.com on my blog, but wordpress makes it impossible, wordpress should do what it takes to make imeem widgets work with the site, imeem is *the* best site for music. period. no arguments.

Hi Gerd, thanks for the list at http://www.social-music.info/ . Can you tell us which of these alternative sites will be supported by wordpress.com?

The best solution is to make your own audio files and upload them with a paid upgrade. There are tons of sites where you can do social networking and share content that other people have created, but the great thing about a blog platfom is the way it lets you publish your own stuff.

That said, all my music-loving friends are crazy about Last Fm, which I gather has an enormous library. Might be nice to have their widget here.

I’m sorry Sonific is gone. I loved having music on my blog and it looks like there is nothing to replace it. It is too bad, because I often discovered artists that I liked through Sonific and then would go out and purchase the albums.
