Sorry, but the username [username] isn't available.

Hello, we’re having a problem registering a username. Whenever we enter that specific username while registering, the site says: Sorry, but the username [username] isn’t available. It seems the username is stuck in the system, not taken, not available either.
How do I proceed from here? I should probably give the username to support stuff, but I don’t know how.

It seems the username is stuck in the system, not taken, not available either.
What makes you say that?
It could have been used some time in the past and be dormant now, but you still can’t use it.
-
Well, I think one of us tried to register that username, but then aborted. We’re not sure though. But it’s quite a rare word, I think it could be trying to register and abort, or it could be older dormant username.

What is the username in question please?
Usernames can be turned into blog addresses, but blog addresses cannot be turned into usernames. For most usernames and blog addresses are the same. When we register a WordPress.com username account the matching blog is automatically reserved for our future use. That reserved blog cannot be obtained by anyone other than the person who has registered the matching username. This thread has been flagged to Staff attention.

Yes, the blog with that username exists. It looks like we’ve created that blog from administrator account of another blog. And that’s why the username is not available any more.
The blog adress is flujdasan, and it’s attached to this username I’m posting with now. I think the staff can see it.
So, is it possible to create a username once the blog with that name is taken? Maybe first if we delete that blog, then we create that username?
We’ve created a little blog with a few users for a little project, and it would be really nice if one of our users could obtain that username.

Do not delete the blog! No that’s not possible. Usernames can be turned into blog addresses, but blog addresses cannot be turned into usernames.

So, does that mean that if one makes an error registering a blog, after that one cannot have that username, even though no one has that username?
-
-
Hmm, I don’t think it very convinient, as I don’t see any warnings on the new blog registering page, that the username will be unavailable to anyone after you register that blog.
It’s strange that the order in which you register matters. If you create the username first, then the blog, you can have both, but if you register blog, the username is gone and no warning of any kind about that.
What is the reason for this kind of an arrangement?
-
When most users register a new blog while logged in, they simple want the blog added to their existing account. They don’t want a second account.
-
Well, most users. But I think it would be fair to have some warning about that? Some people might not do something as most users do, or want the things that most users want.
So, it’s completely impossible to have that username at this stage?
