Sorry, no posts were found

I can’t get any blog posts to show up in the blog posts block. I’ve tried adding tags, and deleting or adding categories to my posts and choosing these in the blog posts block. I can’t work out what has changed as it used to work, and I made a change to show more posts per page, then recently I noticed nothing is now showing at all. And when I revert to a previous version, still nothing shows. It just says ‘Sorry, no posts were found’. Any suggestions on what could be causing this? I definitely have blog posts, and there is definitely only one blog block on the page.

Sorry you’re having trouble! I’m not sure if I understand quite what’s going on, but it looks like you have placed a block on the /blog page to get the blog posts to show up? Could it be that you have set a static home page, without setting a page for displaying the posts?

In the WP Admin, under Settings -> Reading there is an option for setting the page you want your blog posts to display on:

Please let me know if this helps :)

Thank you! Yes I have the blog posts block on both the homepage and blog posts page, but both of them recently stopped showing any posts (even though there are 32 blog posts).

I’ve got the free version of wordpress. Could this be something to do with it?
My admin page doesn’t look the same, and there is no ‘reading’ option. Sorry I’m a complete newbie to wordpress, just went for the most basic free blogging template to update friends and family with what I’m doing, and never really understood how it all worked.

    Thank you!

No problem! I think you’re doing great. The site looks good, but it will be even better when we get these posts displaying again.

The free version wouldn’t prevent posts from showing, so you’re good there.

I’m not 100% sure this is the problem, but please do check those settings in the WP Admin. The link is in the column of links on the left:

Then you’ll have the option to go to Settings -> Reading where you’ll find the option for setting the page you want your blog posts to display on. Be sure to save any changes by clicking the save button at the bottom of the page.

The posts need to have that page set for WordPress to display them. The only time you’ll need the posts block is if you want to display your posts on another page/post. ;)

Hopefully, this helps, and let me know if that doesn’t do the trick. :)

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction for WP admin!

I did what you said but it hasn’t solved the issue sadly :(

Blocks for ‘latest posts’ works, but just not ‘blog posts’. Blog post blocks on both the home page and the blog posts page give the same error.

    Settings now, following your instructions

If I put a ‘latest posts’ page on my blog page instead of using a blog posts block I can see posts, but no images like how it would feature blog posts:

  • I’m noticing all of the posts are password protected — does that sound right to you?

The blog posts block wasn’t supposed to show password protected posts, as they aren’t generally available. So that bug was recently fixed. Now the password protected posts won’t show in the main list.

Can you help us understand what you were intending with that?

Ah that must be the issue! Thank you! Yes I only wanted people with the password to be allowed to view the entire text of a blog post.

As it worked before, showing the titles and people just had to enter a password to view it, I didn’t realise that was a bug.

How would you recommend I allow people to navigate to the blog posts in that case? Is ‘latest posts’ the only way to view them?

    Thank you!

  • Since every post is protected, have you considered making the whole site private rather than protecting individual posts? That way only those you invite will see it, and if you ever need to remove someone, you can do that fairly easily.

Good eye Supernovia! I should’ve spotted that, and I didn’t even notice. Sorry about sending you on a wild goose chase, natashasquarterlifecrisis!

That’s a great suggestion, thank you supernova. I think I didn’t go for that at first as I felt the inviting people individually would be difficult if they needed to create an account, but looking back, I now think this might be the best way forward.

Thank you for identifying the issue! And thank you thatwpemily for your suggestions and trying to help!
