“Sorry, that blog already exists” – even for a deleted blog

Hi,
I created a blog http://santhoshguru.wordpress.com/ and deleted it long time back. Now I’m trying to create a blog of the same name under my user id, but I get the error “Sorry, that blog already exists!”. Also when I give the URL of my deleted blog (http://santhoshguru.wordpress.com/), I get the error “The authors have deleted this blog. The content is no longer available.”.
How do I get back to my old user ID ? Can you help me ?

You can’t delete it to try and free up the name. In the Dashboard under Options -> Delete Blog it says this:
If you do not want to use your WordPress.com blog any more, you can delete it. This CAN NOT be undone. It is permanent.
Do not delete a blog to re-import or to remove entries. Contact Support for those issues.
Do not delete a blog to transfer ownership – read this FAQ entry.
Do not delete a blog to ‘free the name’. That does not happen.
If you delete your blog your username remains. We do not delete accounts. Your email address cannot be used to create another account, but you can log back in and create as many more blogs as you like.

You can always re-use your username. You cannot re-use a deleted blog. That’s what deleting is. It not only disallows it in the present, but also in the future.

Correct me if I am wrong, but It disallows it for other people as well? I tried to have my blog URL as simply “pkay”, but apparently that was already taken… When I typed that URL in to see what the blog was like it said that the blog has been deleted…
Anyway I dont mind or anything (I improvised and now my URL is “pkayski” but wouldn’t this cause problems if people make wordpress blogs and then just delete them preventing others from being able to use that particular name…?

Okay I understand that the I cannot use the deleted blog of some other user. But in my case, I’m not able to use my blog which I deleted.
Have you faced such situation before?

Thats confusing because when I was looking at everything on the dashboard when I first made my account (March 25, 2008) it sounded like it could be remade on your own account. I was even looking at the delete this blog page of the dashboard. Thanks for posting those thesacredpath. Those are what made me respond. I guess you can call these my confessions like Augustine had. I take back what I said. I believe the FAQ. They are very clearly worded.

You can’t do it for a blog you deleted, though.
If you’re dying to use a particular name and it belongs to a dead blog, the best thing to do is investigate whether there’s a cleaner version of the URL up for sale, ie instead of blog.wordpress.com you might look up blog.com and buy the Domain Name upgrade from WP.com and apply it to your blog. Yes, it’s $15 per year, but you can get exactly what you want that way.
