Sorry that site is reserved – 2nd try
-
Hello, I asked this this morning, got an email saying my question was on the forums at this link but that link goes to an error page.
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/sorry-that-site-is-reserved-13/
Repeating my question:
I’ve had a blog, call it XYZ at blogspot dot com. Now porting it to WordPress. I tried XYZ but only got XYZ plus numbers at wordpress.com. I tried XYZ at wordpress dot com in the address bar to see what was there but got the message: ‘XYZ doesn’t exist.
The address XYZ . wordpress . com cannot be registered. Sorry, that site is reserved!’I’m trying to understand – site doesn’t exist but name is reserved for someone? Is it a matter of proving that I own the Blogspot version to get it, or WordPress is never going to give out XYZ? Thanks! (Small chance I registered XYZ at wordpress too years ago but forgot all about it; but then it should say ‘under construction’ or something?)
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What that means is that someone owns the username XYZ. Site address are reserved for the matching username and vice versa. It’s only possible to get the same site address if you own the username under a different account. If someone else owns the XYZ (substitute the real address here) account, then you won’t be able to claim that. That person alone can use the site address. They may or may not have made a blog under their account name, but the address is reserved for them to do so.
WordPress.com is not able to give you the XYZ.wordpress.com address, and the other person deleting their account would mean no one could have that address. It can only be created under that account.

Did you try a site address that exactly matches the username? If you don’t own the account with the exact username that matches the site, unfortunately that site cannot be obtained by you. You can get sites that aren’t the same as your username, but only if no one else has the name already.
