"Sorry, this comment could not be posted" error
-
For the last couple of days, I have been receiving this error on various blog. In particular, I have been able to post on one of these blogs without issue in the past. Now I receive this error.
Here is one of the blog posts in which I am unable to comment:
http://jackcollier7.com/2014/05/20/why-real-men-need-a-women/I have tried posting the comment from Chrome and from IE11. Same results. A white screen pops up with the error “Sorry, this comment could not be posted.”
Did something change? Is there a workaround? I’ve logged in/out. It’s not every blog, but some blogs when I go to their site and specifically tryto comment on a post.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
Note: I comment using my WP account, and when I click the “W”, it automatically verifies and logs me in, my gravatar and name show up below the comment field. After I click the “Post Comment” button is when the error shows up.

I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance because I do not know how to help you. Another Volunteer may answer prior to Staff but I tagged the thread so it will not fall through the cracks and escape attention. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

as this is an issue with me also, instead of starting another thread I will just watch for follow up email responses Diane

Sorry this doubled when I went to leave I said stay on page because I thought my first response didn’t ‘take’…. Diane

Let me add myself to the list of users who have had this issue and, hoping this is an appropriate addition, mention an additional wrinkle I have encountered.
I just got the “Sorry, this comment could not be posted” page a few minutes ago. It happened, however, after a problem I have had on two blogs. Comments I left disappeared completely, even though the page loaded (after I submitted the comments) with the comment URL: no comment visible, not in moderation, nothing. I emailed the first blogger, and he told me my vanished comment was indeed nowhere. When, in both instances, I tried to repost the comments, I got a “duplicate” comment message. When I tried to post the comment a third time in today’s instance, I got the “Sorry” message.
If it helps, the blogs are:
http://derekzrishmawy.com/
and
http://herculesandtheumpire.com/This problem is only recent and thus far only in those two blogs.
I tried restarting my browser, and I also tried logging out and back into my WordPress account. Still got the error messages, and comments still disappeared.

I’ve been getting “Your comment could not be posted” myself. I’m not sure, but I think it pops up when I’ve opened a page, left it in a tab, and then come back to comment after some time — maybe hours, or even the next day.
If I go back to the previous page from the message, my comment is there, but I’m unable to repost or copy it for reposting later, unless I’m willing to take the time to copy and paste a section at a time into a text file. It works, but it’s a pain.

Hi there,
I have a couple things I’d like everyone to try if they are running into this error message:
1. First, please make sure you have third-party cookies enabled in your browser: Third Party Cookies
2. If you still get this error message after enabling third-party cookies, please try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.
If that doesn’t resolve the issue for you, please reply here to let me know. In that case, it would also help if you could include (1) a blog where you continue to get the error and (2) the exact steps you take when you try to leave the comment (including how you logged in to your account before commenting).

Today I haven’t had time to read a lot of blogs but some information that might help… first.. I do have 3rd party cookies, and I had cleared cache but something I noticed is that it happens on blogs that need you to sign in using one of three choices… “W” being the one chosen by me and likely most. I tried clicking on the W before commenting and after to see if it made any difference….but it didn’t. What I end up doing is ..when I suspect or know it’s likely going to happen ..after commenting, I highlight and ‘copy’ my comment and then I try again and paste my comment so I don’t have to type it again. Usually on the third try it works… It takes perseverance to do this though… Hope this helps. I may be able to find one that it happens on later if it would help. Diane

P.S. I suddenly remembered one it happens on… and I just tested it…Diane

Hi Diane,
Just to confirm, are you already logged in to your WordPress.com account before you visit that blog post (before commenting)? If so, do you see the dark grey admin bar at the top of the screen there?
If you’re already logged in to your WordPress.com account, you shouldn’t have to log in again when you land on a blog hosted at WordPress.com (like the one you linked to). That’s usually a sign that third-party cookies aren’t enabled, or that they are not enabled for WordPress.com sites.
-
When I get an email notification of a post and then select ‘comment’ or click here to see the rest of post…most times my wordpress user name defaults and I see the admin bar, but with the one in question that I gave you…it does not ! Is it a setting that the owner of the blog uses or some other reason that does not take me (or others) into wordpress ??? Third party cookies are definitely enabled… Diane

Hi Diane,
Could you please try closing out of your browser completely and then reopening it? What you’re describing is an issue with third-party cookies not working properly, but it’s possible that your browser is just getting stuck and not handling those cookies properly. (There aren’t any settings on the blog that would make a difference in this case, but you’re likely to see the same issue on any WordPress.com blog using a custom domain instead of a free WordPress.com address.)
If that doesn’t fix it, please head to the Third Party Cookies page, take a look under the “Checking your browser…” heading near the top of the page, and let me know what it says there. That may give me a little more information I can use to troubleshoot this with you.
-
Ahh when I went to that site it said 3rd party cookies seem to be disabled…even though they show as enabled under tools/privacy..it gives the option link to turn them on… which I will do Diane
-
All they did was to indicate what already shows on my privacy.. that they are enabled … until they expire… so what now?
Above that it says Firefox will use custom settings for history… Is that what I want or the other options are
‘remember history’
or never remember history…. -
Hi Diane,
In Firefox, the settings related to third-party cookies are the ones under “Accepts cookies from sites.” Here’s that section: https://cloudup.com/cHV2DdXc1d2
If the setting “Accept third-party cookies” is set to “Always,” that means third-party cookies are always enabled. However, you can make exceptions to that rule by clicking the Exceptions button. You may need to check that list to make sure third-party cookies aren’t blocked on WordPress.com sites.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Diane, since I notice that you say you’ve had the good sense to copy your comments, when you fear something will go wrong, so that you won’t lose them, let me just chime in again to make a recommendation. I was able to save my own lost comments in order to try them again later with the use of a form recovery software. Since you use Firefox, you ought to be able to download and install this, the appropriately named Lazarus, fairly easily: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/lazarus-form-recovery/. A little something useful, just in case you have another commenting glitch and happen not to have remembered to copy the comment first. That program will store your comments, regardless of whether they successfully post, and keep them available to you.

Hi.. to rachelmcr… I don’t understand why on that website it says that they seem to be disabled when they clearly aren’t when I look. The settings are set to ‘always’ and there are no exceptions there. Is there any other changes that could be made …the glitch is on the blogs whose url is .com and not wordpress.com
Hi to lasseter1931 I’ll go and look at that download for recovery… (not sure how it works) but I’ll check it out .. thanks
Diane

Sorry, I have forked this thread as below. Perhaps a moderator can merge it, close the fork. My apologies.
I use FF and seldom tinker with the configuration for just these reasons. I notice that DISQUS has also fallen afoul of a common tracker blocking filter writer.
I’ll give up WP (and DISQUS) rather than compromise my security.
