"Sorry, this comment could not be posted" error

rachelmcr Hi…. I went to Control Panel and in Search I put ‘cookies’ which brought up ‘internet options’ and choice to Block/Allow 3rd party cookies…. which went to ‘Privacy’ and I chose ‘sites’
I put the url’s in of a couple of the ones I know are a problem .com sites
I checked ‘allow’ and ‘okay’
I don’t know if it makes any difference because I still have to go to another post like ‘about’ or ‘home’ or ? to bring up the WordPress bar at the top.. at which point I know it’s okay to go to the post I want to make a comment in… Hope that helps … Diane -
@lilmaouz – Ah, I see what you mean now. That’s a separate issue from the commenting issue described in this post, which is why I got confused. (Sorry about that!) If you’d like, I can investigate that further — I’d just ask that you start a new forum thread about it so we can keep the issues separate.
@Diane – I’m not sure why you’re still having trouble with this — I haven’t been able to reproduce the problem you’re describing in Firefox, no matter what cookie settings I enter.
Can you make a screenshot of your current cookie settings? That may help me reproduce the problem so I can help you resolve it. You can upload screenshots to your Media Library under Media > Add New in your dashboard, or you can use an online service like Snaggy.

I did a screenshot and it’s in my media library…. do I need to do something else with it or can you view it there Diane
-
Thanks, Diane. I can view it in your media library. Could you also upload a screenshot of the Exceptions page of your settings? That could also help me as I look into this.

Hi Diane, I replicated your settings exactly on my computer, but I still can’t reproduce the behavior you described. This is a bit of a puzzle.
Could you please try enabling HTTPS in your account, by going to Users > Personal Settings in your dashboard and checking the box next to “Always use HTTPS when visiting administration pages”?
Also, if you have any browser extensions or add-ons, can you please try disabling them to see if that makes a difference?
-
Hi… I enabled Https and it made no difference. I went to Tools/Add Ons and extensions and there is none.
I went to Internet Options and under manage add ons
and I am hesitant re disabling the ones showing as they are Microsoft
Windows Media, Silverlight,Link Browser Helper, and link click to call and security Bitdefender wallet srl
I don’t know what these do and what I’m going to end up messing… I’ve had computer issues in the past and I don’t want to change something important…
I don’t think we can worry anymore about this.. I’ll just have to keep doing what I’m doing I guess even thought it’s a pain! Unless you or someone else has any more ideas
But thanks for trying as much as you have… Diane -
Hi. I accidentally started this enquiry on a later thread before I discovered this one had been done about a week before, so I am commenting to this one too, still hoping to get a solution. This same problem occurred last summer’s end, and rachelmcr helped me with it, but it turned out not to be a 3rd party cookies’ problem, not to be a spam problem, and not to be a browser problem then. this time it is not a 3rd party cookies’ problem or a spam problem, and it happens in some cases when there is a custom site and in some cases when there is not, and last summer it just suddenly was solved by WordPress.com somehow days after I’d despaired of ever having it solved at all. This time around, I know my 3rd party cookies are okay and it’s not spam (especially since I made contact on one site I have had repeated problems with–http://bookmust.wordpress.com/–and the owner of the site said he would check on his end too. I also know my browser is okay and has been cleaned up, because in trying to figure out how to follow the complicated instructions for re-doing the browser, I did something to the computer which required Norton security to get on and redo my security program, and they cleaned up the whole computer. The sites I’m having trouble with have been malfunctioning for about a 4-5 day period now, and I’m anxious to get this solved. What happens is that when I go to my e-mail to read my posts and comments from other sites, they come on. I click the “W” icon, type my comment, it says below it that “You’re commenting using your WordPress.com account,” and it gives me two check boxes, one which says “new comments on this site” (or words to that effect) and the other of which says “new posts on this site.” I click both and hit the submit button, the “Sorry, this comment cannot be posted” error occurs. Then, I go back in, re-type the comment, and hit the icon again, get the same response EXCEPT that it only has one of the check boxes this time, the “new comments on this site.” I press that and the submit button, and it takes the comment. The only time this doesn’t happen according to this model is when the FIRST time it only has the “new comments on this site,” and not the other check box, and then sometimes it won’t do it even with just the one. I really hope you can help, and I know I’ve done everything you’ve told me to do this far. The only thing I can think to do else is to follow writerwannabe763’s suggestion and go all the way back into the original blog I want to leave a comment on in order to leave a comment, but I somehow feel that it shouldn’t have to be that hard to use the system. Sorry that I started the second thread, but in any case, it seems to have petered out with no further suggestions. Maybe you can help, as you did last year, with I believe rachelmcr and timethief doing their magic, and another person, I can’t remember now whom it was. At any rate, the problem solved itself then, after a few days. Thanks for reading. Signed, frustrated.
