SOS: Blog Security Question
-
I have recently been made aware that my WordPress blog shows that it is insecure. I pay for having my own domain name. However, I do not have a WordPress business website, and when I’m on my dashboard, it shows Secure. I have an https.
How can I get my actual blog to be secure? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi There,
Keegan here, I would be happy to help.
If you purchased your domain name kellyfbarr.com on WordPress.com then your site should be secure within 72 hours of purchasing the domain.
Have you recently purchased your domain from WordPress.com?
You can read more about HTTPS/SSL security here

Hi Keegan,
Thanks for responding. However, I purchased my domain four years ago. I don’t remember it showing as Not Secure before.
When someone goes to my blog page, it has a little “i” in a circle in front of my domain name in the address bar.
However, my Dashboard pages shows the Security Lock.
I just want to be sure my actual blog is secure as well. -
This error happens when a page is displaying “insecure content” which could be a file, image, or link on the page.
Your blog is still protected with SSL, but to get your green lock back, you will need to find what item/items are causing the issue.
When did you notice this? What have you changed on your blog recently?

Ok, I think I have pinpointed the cause of this to two files:
acfwlogo.jpg, and
CNW_Winner_180.png (Camp Nanowrimo pic)Both of these files are located in your sidebar widgets. Note that if you link out to external files they have to be HTTPS links, or you will have this issue crop up again.
Let me know if removing these links/images works!

I really appreciate the help, but I don’t want to remove those two items. I just noticed the security issue a couple of days ago, both of those widgets have been on my blog for over a year.
I will check tomorrow, to see if they are https or not, and let you know.
Thanks. -
Since the insecure items are image files, one solution might be to create new links by uploading the images to your media library, and then link to the images there instead.
Here’s more info about the media library:
Hope that helps, and good luck!
