Is it possible to insert a sound file into a post so that it plays automatically when the post it accessed?

The WordPress player does not provide autoplay music. You can try an alternative player: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/12/05/alternative-audio-players/
Please note: autoplay is a major irritant for some people (myself included). Many of us are already listening to music of our own choosing. And many of us will click out never to return again if we experience someone else’s musical taste when clicking in as have not been given an option to listen or not. I never return to such blogs.

You make a good point. I had come across it elsewhere and wondered if it was easy to do. I had a particular post in mind with a relevant song.

I have had a good reader reaction to using the Audio player to embed a song in a post so the reader can click on it if they choose. They appreciate lyrics too, if you have them.
