Soundcloud embed shortcode does not work.
-
The soundcloud short code does not seem to be working on wordpress.com. I’ve tried over several days and it just shows up as raw code. Is this a glitch, has support officially been discontinued, is there some workaround?
Thanks.

Soundcloud embeds are working fine. It may be that you’re trying to embed a Private (non-embeddable) track. I see in one of your posts that this one is Private: https://soundcloud.com/shermin-de-silva/20140404-1127-0-lrm-tus/s-BxEf2
You can read more about how SoundCloud embeds work on WP.com here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/soundcloud-audio-player/

Thanks, so from that I take it there is no way to embed a private track. That would be useful, too bad.

No, that would be impossible. SoundCloud is allowing users to restrict their content, therefore restricts people from embedding Private content. You could politely ask the person to not set their tracks as Private?

Thanks for the suggestion, but in fact the owner of the clip is me. I don’t want the clip to be public but do want to be able to embed it myself. It seems the better way to ensure privacy would be to control who gets access to the embed code rather than just privacy setting of the clip itself. After all, one can still share the link, which can then be passed to anyone. Embedding would be better, though I suppose someone can still get the source code if they want to badly enough. There doesn’t seem to be a good way around it, thanks though.

One solution could be to create a small sample clip and embed that? Then have a link to “Listen To Full Track”. Not the most elegant solution, but nonetheless.
That is the only solution (work around) that I can suggest. Yes, managing audio rights through embedded content is tricky stuff.
