Soundcloud HTML5 widget?

Is it possible to use the Soundcloud HTML5 widget in wordpress.com blogs? I’ve tried copying and pasting the code but it doesn’t seem to work – the short code for the older widgets work fine. I’m trying to get my tracks to show up on iOS devices. Thanks!

Please either provide a direct link to the code or post the code here between backticks. The backtick is found on the key to the immediate left of the number 1 key. It’s in lower case ` on the same key as the tilde ~ which is in upper case.

Sorry, I missed some of the stuff from earlier in the thread. The shortcode, as the OP knows, currently fires up the Flash-based player – or rather, on iOS, it doesn’t… I hope that someone at WordPress.com and/or SoundCloud will address this problem (since I don’t have any hope that anyone at Apple will).

Yeah, that wouldn’t work as is, since we strip ut iFrames site-wide for security reasons.
I’ll see what we can do about switching over our code to their HTML5 version.

On a related topic, will it ever be possible to have the standard [audio] embed bring up an HTML5 player on devices that cannot read Flash (i.e. iPad, iPhone)?

The previous question (@kf) is a good one. More generally, I wonder how many of the shortcodes assume that Flash is available. That assumption isn’t as sound as it used to be.

The audio embed tag is Flash-only right now.
The only thing at WordPress.com that utilizes HTML5 right now are the various video embeds (when an HTML5 option is available from the source), including VideoPress.

I am facing the unfortunate task of transfering my wordpress.com site to a wordpress.org hosted site –
- unless
there is a chance of HTML5 audio being implemented down the road. I would rather not go through the hassle of the transfer, but I don’t know if I have much of a choice as I depend on audio playback for my career.

Yes, there are plans to make the audio shortcode work with HTML5 and roll-back to Flash if necessary.

It is indeed great news. We* want a platform that allows us to focus on content and presentation, without having to worry about the many combinations of hardware and software being used to view our blogs.
* This is one of the few times I feel justified in using “we” to denote the wishes of many WP.com bloggers. My usual posting mode is “This what I think, many others consider it crazy.”

Actually the code works perfectly for me. I just went to HTML edit mode (instead of Visual) and inserted the code provided including the
<iframetags.Obviously had to delete the existing soundcloud shortcodes as they still call the Flash widget.
On your Soundcloud Set or Track Go to Share > Customise Player > HTML5
Get the code > Insert to post (HTML mode) > Save > Voilà!

That’s because you have a self-hosted WordPress.org blog. Neither iFrames, nor plugins are allowed on WordPress.com blogs.
