Source code

    Hi All,

I am wondering is it possible to get the source code of my site so that it can be shown locally on a laptop that will not have access to the internet…

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Most web browsers will give you a “Save As” option that lets you download not just the HTML source code for the current page but things like images and CSS (styling) files that are needed to make it display as normal with no internet connection. However this won’t do the whole site, just the one page you are viewing.

A more complicated but thorough option would be to download the WordPress.org version of your theme, install WordPress locally on your computer and export your WordPress.com blog content and transfer it across. This is moderately technical and quite time consuming if you need to move lots of files from your media library and due to the inherent differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org there might still be some noticeable differences.

You might also consider just taking screenshots of those most important pages, they won’t be interactive but your audience will be able to appreciate the visual elements like the layout and colour scheme.

Lastly, it’s always possible to get USB internet dongle with a SIM card in and pay as you go data allowance so that you can get the internet on the laptop when no ethernet cable or Wi-Fi signal will go (although if you’re in an underground bunker this won’t help much!)

Finally, if you literally just want the source code (HTML) then right click somewhere on your site, select the option most similar to View Page Source and save the resulting text file – although this will also need to be done on a page by page basis.
