Space

    Dear all!

Some time ago I have purchased a plan to have 6 Gb storage space. Currently only 4,3 Gb is used and my storage space is full.

    How’s that?!

  • Hi there,

The Personal Plan that gave you the additional 3GB of space expired back on 1/31. Although the free plan only has a 3GB limit, you still get to have 4.3GB of space (we won’t delete any of your uploaded content), but cannot add anymore. You will need to repurchase the personal plan or delete your content to get it under 3GB for the free plan in order to add more photos.

    Hope that helps.

    Hello again!

There’s a strange situation, I think. Purchasing that particular personal plan that I have previously payed for gave me an additional 3 Gb of space. This means: 3 Gb free plus 3 Gb, payed (purchased) makes 6 Gb, total.

So far, I have only used 4.3 Gb, as you correctly mentioned, but there’s still an additional 1.7 until I reach the total of 6 Gb.

Am I correct, or the 1.7 Gb that I have payed for has been nationalized/taken away?

    In friendship,
    Oliver

  • Hello Oliver,

Many thanks for reaching back out.

You are correct, this would afford you 6GB in total and we wouldn’t take away the 1.7GB remaining GB.

Are you able to confirm the site you’re referring to please?

    Many thanks in advance.

    OK, I’ll try.

When will I have the 1.7 Gb remaining storage space back? :-)

  • Hi there,

You no longer have access to the remaining 1.7GB of space because you no longer have an active Personal Plan. The Personal Plan provides 6 GB of space and the free plan provides 3. When the Personal Plan expired under your account, you were already over the threshold for the free amount at 4.3 GB, and we wouldn’t remove that additional 1.3 GB worth of content from your media library, but, you also do not receive the additional 1.7 GB of space that is allotted for the Personal Plan, nor are you able to add any more photos until you get back under the 3GB threshold for the free plan or pay to regain access of the 6 GB for the Personal Plan.

    Hopefully, that helps.

Let us know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Hello yet again,

Disappointment: one pays several times for the additional 3 Gb: 3 free by default and 3 if you pay, several times, that is, as it expires after a year or so.

    Not correct and fair!

If one pays for a service (3 Gb extra), one should have it – on the service payed, service provided basis. I will look it up how that is defined in the Roman law, spanning over a thousand years of jurisprudence, from the Twelve Tables onward… :)

    Disappointment.

Even worse: I have to pay 48 dollars for the Personal Plan, actually, the remaining 1.7 Gb which hasn’t been used yet, but payed for when I purchased the 3 Gb extra… :-( :-(

Even worse: the ad for the Personal Plan says: “6 GB storage space”, which, in fact, is not (completely) true, because it’s not an additional 6 Gb, but only 3, in my case only 1.7 Gb, until I reach the 6 Gb… And then after a year or so that expires also… :( :(

  • Hello there,

    Many thanks for your feedback.

Ultimately, you are currently using 3GB of storage at no cost – if you require more, there is a cost involved.

I’d like to clean up some misunderstandings that may be occurring here:

additional 3 Gb: 3 free by default and 3 if you pay, several times, that is, as it expires after a year or so.
Personal Plan says: “6 GB storage space”, which, in fact, is not (completely) true, because it’s not an additional 6 Gb, but only 3

The storage isn’t additional, it’s what the plan affords the site to do.

So, with each yearly renewal, you wouldn’t be getting an additional 3GB, you would just be maintaining the storage that is available.

The plans at WordPress.com, don’t just stop at storage, they also afford you other features, which you can make use of if you wish.

Please see a full run of storage available here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/#lpc-pricing

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks for answering, and clarifying!

In my particular case, in this moment, I would have to pay 48 USD (purchasing the Personal Plan upgrade) for 1.7 Gb. Is this correct?

  • Hi Koliver,

That is correct. The subscription to the Personal Plan will allow you to maintain the 6 GB of space for your media library.

    Thanks,

I strongly think a new plan/concept is urgently needed, as this is not a suitable one.

To pay 48 USD for merely 1.7 Gb of space – in my case – after being a user and generating content as a journalist for 13 years is simply not OK.

People don’t earn their living equally throughout the world. 48 USD for 1.7 Gb might not be much for some or most of Americans, but salaries in Eastern Europe are far less…

Plus, getting 3 Gb for 48 US$ and not being able to fully use is, is also not correct. I think it would be much more appropriate to scale the offer, like: 1 Gb for 10 USD, 1.5 for 12, 20 for 15 USD and so on. Eternally, not renewable.

Maybe you guys can suggest this/pass this on to the marketing department of WordPress.

For the time being, I’ll upload my pictures to a different site and put a link on my blog that takes the visitors there.

Many happy years without COVID-19! :-)

  • Thanks for your continuous feedback, @koliver.

I strongly think a new plan/concept is urgently needed, as this is not a suitable one.

Just FYI in the past, we offered stand-alone storage upgrades but these have been incorporated into our plans and, as my colleagues explained above each plan offers way more than just storage space.

To pay 48 USD for merely 1.7 Gb of space – in my case – after being a user and generating content as a journalist for 13 years is simply not OK.

I understand that this is how it looks like from your point of view. The maximum storage space on the free plan is 3GB. If you purchase a yearly subscription, that number changes. When the subscription expires, you’re back at Free and lose all the paid features. Since we won’t delete your files, you are still using way more space than what your plan offers.

For the time being, I’ll upload my pictures to a different site and put a link on my blog that takes the visitors there.

That sounds like a good alternative if you do not wish to upgrade at the moment.
