Space and headline

All my pages show the title of the page as a big headline on the page. This takes so much space and I don’t want it to be seen, it`s clear from the menu where one is. If I am taking the title out, the title disappears in the menu as well and says ‘no title’. What can I do?

The site I need help with is [visible only to staff] (email visible only to moderators and staff). It is not hosted by WordPress.com, but it is connected with Jetpack.

  • Hi there,

Your site is not hosted on WordPress.com, but using the open source WordPress.org software at another hosting provider.

Please contact support for the theme you’re using directly for help with this – they should be able to help you with some custom CSS code you can use to change the size at which the titles display, or even hide them entirely.

I would not recommend not using titles – your page titles are used in other places, like in the HTML head section of the site where screen readers and search engines, for example, look for details about the page. So not setting a title can make your site harder for people with disabilities to use, and it can negatively impact your search engine rankings.

That said, to prevent your titles disappearing from the menu when you remove them from the page, you can set a custom menu (WP-Admin >Appearance >Customize >Menus), where you can have the menu label be something different from the actual page title.

For more help with the version of WordPress you’re using, you can ask the WordPress.org community over at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
