Space Upgrade 10gb

    When I went to pay for my annual subscription for the 10gb Space Upgrade, it automatically goes to auto renew which is unfair. I don’t want it to do this. I keep very close tabs on what I want to go off my credit card and when. Hence I cancelled the renewal.

    What happens now? I want to pay for this upgrade annually as and when it happens, not let WordPress have control over my credit card.

    Please advise urgently.

    I see now also that even though my previous 10gb upgrade was only meant to expire in 13 days, by cancelling the credit card transaction (and hence the latest upgrade), the site has automatically stopped me from loading more media although technically I have 13 days of last year’s subscription left.

    How can I get back to where I was AND extend the storage space available to 10gb for another year? The site no longer offers me this, only a premium subscription which I don’t want?

    Your upgrade was already renewed for another year when you cancelled it. You did not just cancel the renewal, you cancelled the entire upgrade.

    I’m afraid I don’t understand why you would cancel an automatic renewal if you want to renew the upgrade in any case. All upgrades on WordPress.com renew automatically. This is not unfair. This is how our business, and most online businesses work.

    You can easily disable autorenewal at any time before an upgrade renews. If you did not want it to renew automatically you should have done that, instead of cancelling it after it has already renewed.

    We no longer sell stand-alone upgrade on WordPress.com, but as you cancelled it only a few hours ago I’m still able to restore it to your account. Please note that if you cancel it again, or let it expire, we will not be able to restore it to your account a second time and you’ll need to buy the Premium Plan instead.

    Hi and thank you for the prompt reply. Essentially the problem for me while I was paying was that it was not clear whether you would automatically deduct from my credit card going forward or not. That is my definition of autorenew based on my experience with other online subscription renewals and hence why I cancelled. Please restore and accept the credit card payment for another year.

  • As I said, I’ve already restored the upgrade. You will need to manually renew it from the Purchases page now:
    https://wordpress.com/purchases/

    That will again activate auto-renew, but if you’d prefer to have it deactivated, reply here again after you’ve renewed it and I can disable auto-renew for you.

    The first transection has already gone off my credit card. Does that mean a second deduction until the first one is reversed?

  • The original payment was refunded when you cancelled the upgrade earlier today. You should receive that refund in a few days.

    I restored the upgrade with the original expiration date of 21 July, so you need to make a new payment to renew it before then.
