Space Upgrade

Is there any way to pay a block sum for more space? I don’t want to pay monthly for a plan upgrade, I simply want more space to upload images. I’m aware that I could reduce image size for upload, but some of the images I no longer have access to, and as I’ve uploaded 3GB worth of pictures already, it would be a real headache to delete every single one and reupload them.
If I have to open a second blog to continue posting, then that’s fine, but I thought I’d ask the question first!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.com used to offer a space upgrade option but discontinued it for all but existing users some time ago. You could upgrade to a Personal plan at $36 per year, or as you suggested, start another blog. But it really does pay to optimize images for the web, especially if you have an image-heavy site.

    Optimize Your Images

What happens if I upgrade for a length of time and then cancel my plan? I have no issue paying for an upgrade, my only real issue is that I’m not going to be able to pay for it indefinitely. If I was to upgrade for the few years I continue posting, will I lose all my extra uploaded images if/when I finally cancel it? I guess that’s my biggest worry.

You wouldn’t be able to add new images if your upgrade expires.

All plans are paid annually and a year in advance. There is no monthly payment option.

Also, if you’ve run out of 3gb of storage after only 3 years, you will want to look into resizing and optimizing your images before uploading them to your WordPressdotcom site. Unless your theme requires a larger featured image, a good overall size to aim for is a max of 1600 pixels wide.

I’m aware of the yearly payment, I was just worried that if after the paid year/two years were up, that I’d lose all the content that had been uploaded during that time. If all I lose is the ability to upload but everything remains on the site, then that’s fine.

My image size is 1600 x 896 currently, I just have a very image heavy blog.

Actually, I do have some that are larger, but that’s my own fault because I realize I’ve been saving the edited pictures as png over jpg by accident!

But, to check I have this right; I buy the plan and get the upgrade, continue to post for however long, and then stop when I no longer use the site for anything other than memories. All of my content will remain, and I won’t be able to upload any new images?

Resizing is one side of the equation, optimizing is the other. :) I’ve gotten very good results from jpegmini.com

Yes, that is what I meant. Your already uploaded content remains if you stop renewing your Plan.

Brilliant, thank you! Also, that site is great – thank you again!
