Spacing beteeen posts, Connections theme
-
Hello:
Of course I’m a total noob (Just discovered WP, I know a bit of html but 0 CSS).
Of course I read the “Read me first” and “7 things to know” posts ;-)I am using the Connections theme at the following address.
http://testzzz.wordpress.com/I have fiddled quite a bit with it over the past few days (although I’m sure an expert eye would say not much has changed). So I’m pretty sure I am now aware of most of the changes I can do (change category names, page names, change default page, headers, widgets (I love the text widget) header image, I even played with the fonts and padding around dates in CSS, date formats, etc.)
So, back to my question: The only thing I don’t like about this theme is that there is TOO much space between posts. And what’s up with that divider thingy? I am planning on using one-liner posts with the “more” tag, but still, that leaves about 2 inches between each posts. Can this be reduced by modifying the CSS only?
If not, I might have to resort to using wordpress.org but I think I have figured that the exact same Connections theme from WP.com is not available anywhere else (example on Patricia Müller website, the latest version is from April 17th 2005…).
Second question: does this mean that the very same Connections theme from WP.com is not exportable? Thanks for reading me!

On my screen, the space between post doesn’t look that big… what’s your screen resolution? 1028×768 or less?
Yes, the space can be reduce modifying the CSS only. You can get rid of the divider using CSS as well.

Thank you very much devblog.
Yes I’m at 1028×768, good guess.
Could you or anybody else point to me which CSS code I should modify to accomplish this?
Is it complicated to figure out? Should I pay for such a service?
Thanks again,

@testzzz
Yes you do have to pay for a css editing upgrade in order to change this. http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/10/18/about-the-custom-css-upgrade/ -
Thanks timethief but I already knew that !-)
What I meant is “Is it so complicated that I should let someone more knowledgeable do the CSS edits?”Anyhow, I hacked my way into learning basic CSS and googled my way around for a few hours and I found out the following:
It is not so hard to make the theme “tighter” but still, not tight enough for me. I used the Firebug Firefox extension and the Web Developer Firefox Extension to figure that out. I guess you have to know a minimum of html code to use those extensions (advice). So, there is a table row (html code) that would need to go. That can’t be done with the CSS option. If I really want it, I have to go the WP.com way.
For now, I’ll just put up with it!

oop, I’ll rephrase my last sentence
WAS:
If I really want it, I have to go the WP.com way.
NOW:
If I really want it (the tighter design with modified hyml code), I have to go the WP.ORG way. -

Agreed and best wishes to you. :)
