spacing between wrapped sentences
-
I have this strange problem with my text formatting. When working in edit mode the top 50% of my text on the pager shows up with a good amount of space between lines of text. Not paragraphs, the spaces between the lines of text of one wrapped sentence. Almost like double space. The lower 50% of all my text shows up with all lines of text nice an tight together. But when preview or looking at the final page all text spacing is the same double space. I’m talking about the vertical space between the lines of text. I know about the shift+enter. I’m not talking about the spaces between sentences, talking about the space between the text of a wrapped sentence that takes up multiple line of text. I tried looking into the html code but I am limited because I am using the free version.
How do I fix this?

Hi there,
Can you please provide a link to a specific post or page where this is happening, and can you also take a screen shot of what you’re seeing and upload it to your media library at My Site ->Media ->Add?
I tried looking into the html code but I am limited because I am using the free version.
All sites on WordPress.com have exactly the same ability to view posts and pages in the HTML view of the editor. Just click the HTML tab at the top if you’re using the classic editor, or click the three dots icon in the toolbar for a specific block in the block editor to view your content in HTML.

He, thanks for your response. Yes, I have been in the html editor. I meant I am limited to the html I can use because of template design. In the premium I could play around with css, etc…
This is the site: https://christinmestudymap.wordpress.com/
I have uploaded two screen shots.
Here is a screen shot of the text while in edit mode:

You will see a youtube link there in the middle with horizontal rules. Above the test has double space spacing. Vertical space between the text and below the youtube link you will see the text with very little vertical space between text. There is a lot of text on this page. In edit mode the text below the youtube link that is really tight together vertical stays that way to the bottom of the page.
However, when you view the page online, all text has the same double space vertically between text/sentences.
Here is the same section of text in browser view:
you can see all the text has the same vertical spacing.
So trying to fix it in edit view.
Thanks. Tony

Can you please also give a link to the post where this is happening, so we can actually view the post in the editor?

The main url I gave is the link. It’s a page not a post. It’s the front page. So actual url is
https://christinmestudymap.wordpress.com/home
Thanks

Hi –
To make sure I understand, you want the following text to be single spaced above the YouTube embedded video?
Malcolm Smith’s teaching from Jacob’s Ladder in Jn. 1:35-51
WEBINAR 239 – God’s SongAll of this title spacing is the same across the home page. You could try to shorten it down to fit on one line as another option. Write back to let me know.

The spacing on the “visible” page is fine. Easy to read, the spacing has a lot of nice breathing space and is easy to read and is the same throughout the entire page. That part is fine.
In the “editor” mode all of the text below the youtube video is tight spaced. I want the text in the editor to show the same spacing that is above the youtube video link. It just makes me think something is wrong with the formatting but still comes out OK in “visible” page.
I think maybe there is just some strange html code somewhere after the youtube link that is making all the text from that point on have tight spacing vertically between text while in editor mode but when you update and publish the page all is fine and wordpress is probably automatically fixing, or the template restraints are fixing.
Hope that makes sense.

Hi there,
As you can see from the following screenshot, the line spacing appears looks fine on my end:
Can you please let me know which web browser are you using and through which interface are you editing that page? The classic dashboard (https://christinmestudymap.wordpress.com/wp-admin/) or the WordPress.com interface (https://wordpress.com/pages/)?

Thanks for the help.
I am using Chrome browser and the old editor.
This is very interesting!! I switched to the new block editor and let wordpress convert everything to blocks and this same problem area reveals something interesting. The area above the youtube link is the same spacing on text, the larger spacing, but once you hit the youtube link it puts everything into an html block for all of the content rest of the page down. Very interesting.
Here is a screen shot of my editor mode with the new block editor.
Not a fan of the new block editor. Also one horrible thing it does is update automatically every so often, that is not cool. it updates (publishes) when you are in the middle of editing… yipes!

I figured it out.
I had a bunch of <div> in html view in strange places. I removed them all and now all is well.
is that OK to remove them? Why were they there I wonder? Who knows. But is working fine now.
