Spacing Issue and Video Image link image is now huge
-
I’m having TWO SEPARATE ISSUES:
In the past couple of hours (I didn’t notice it yesterday) my “live” blog page has a spacing problem between my data and venue links. It seems on the text side, each link is now listed twice creating a gap. See example below:
Visual Edit page looks like this: Smorgasburg- Ongoing all Summer. Every Sunday at South Street Seaport and all Central Park Summerstage
http://www.brooklynflea.com/locations/Text Visual page looks like this: <span style=”color: #ff0000;”>Smorgasburg- Ongoing all Summer. Every Sunday at South Street Seaport and all Central Park Summerstage
http://www.brooklynflea.com/locations/Live Blogpost looks like this: Smorgasburg- Ongoing all Summer. Every Sunday at South Street Seaport and all Central Park Summerstage

Second, I feature this sentence on the top of my page: ** Have a minute?? Take a look at the SocialEyesNYC Video!! http://youtu.be/z3DBys2TPzk** This video picture is now HUGE on the top of my page WITHOUT clicking into the link.
Can you please help fix? Many thanks!

This site http://www.brooklynflea.com is not a free hosted WordPress.com blog. It is a WordPress.org install. WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate and have separate logins. If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens there.

Timethief,
That isn’t my question AT ALL. My site is SocialEyesNYC.com, on the FREE wordpress.com system. I list NYC events, and I showed you an example of the spacing that has suddenly changed on my site today. It’s on every single one of my static pages as well as my daily posts.
Is there someone who can please explain if there is a glitch that can be fixed?
Secondly, there is a huge video now showing on the top of my page. Please take a look at this page to see all the problems.

Thanks.

I’m so sorry I misunderstood you. I apologize. I have now looked at the top of this site http://socialeyesnyc.com/ and decided to back out of this thread and allow another Volunteer to help you sort your issues.

Hi!
It looks like you want the following text appear on your site:
**But, before you scroll down, do you have a minute?? Take a look at the SocialEyesNYC Video!! http://youtu.be/z3DBys2TPzk**
The problem here is that the instead of a link, the Youtube address (http://youtu.be/z3DBys2TPzk) renders a video instead.
I’m going to put in a ticket with our developers to see if they can get to the bottom of this. For the time being you can fix this issue by adjusting things a bit.
First, remove the Youtube address. You should see something like this:
**But, before you scroll down, do you have a minute?? Take a look at the SocialEyesNYC Video!!**
Next, select the text “SocialEyesNYC Video” and click the link icon.
Enter the Youtbe address in the URL text box and click the “Add Link” button. At this point we have created a new link and there’s no change of the actual video appearing.
I’ll looking into the spacing issue next.

I did a bit of digging into the spacing issue and, while I can see what you are talking about, this appears to be the way the WordPress handles raw links on new lines. They will be converted to paragraphs instead of a line return. I tested a few versions back and this behavior has been around for a while. It’s possible that the spacing that you saw before you noticed a change was a bug that has been recently fixed.
It is probably best to always use an explicit link when you want the line containing a link to be a part of the original paragraph.

Hi Michael,
Thanks for your help. I see what you’re saying, but I’m not quite sure that is what’s happening. I’d like to show you what my working page looks like, but would prefer not to send you the links in a public forum.
However, to try to describe it to you: the ” visual” side on the edit page is set up properly and all the lines are grouped together as I place them. I can still see it that way as we speak.
The problem seems to be on the “text” side, where now each link appears to be duplicated, which was not the case prior to this afternoon. In other words, when I placed a link under a sentence on the text side, it remained there as a single line. Now, there are two links on the text side, back to back, which seems to be causing a gap.
FYI…I had this same issue occur just about a year ago at this time, and somehow you folks were able to correct it.
Can I possibly give you permission to go onto my site and see what I’m referring to?
As for the video issue, I’ll keep you posted on my progress. -
If I am understanding correctly, you see something like this in the text view (I took the liberty of changing the actual data because this is a public forum.):
<strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">Event Title</span>- This is a description of the event. This is more information pertaining to the event. </strong> <strong><a href="http://example.com/" target="_blank">http://example.com/</a></strong>I see here that http://example.com/ is repeated twice. This is because this view in not just text, it’s HTML markup. The first appearance of http://example.com is in an HTML anchor element. This is how the link is created. The second occurrence is what will be displayed on the page.
Is the issue here that there is an extra line return displayed above the link when viewing the live site?

Good Morning Michael!
Yes, you are absolutely correct in your description above. And, yes the issue is that there is now an extra line return displayed above the link when viewing the live site.
I’ve been posting daily in my desired format-all the info together without the extra line return- for a year and a half with virtually zero issues (except that one time glitch last year). So, what changed yesterday for both this issue and the video display?
As mentioned, my edit page looks correct, just the live site has changed…which makes it very difficult for my readers to navigate.
Any chance for a fix?

Thanks for confirming. I’ve asked our developers to see if someone can figure out what happened to cause this. We’ll let you know as soon as we figure this out.
-
We were able to push out a fix for the video issue. I checked out your Manhattan page and the giant video is no linger there. We’re still working on the other issue and might not be able to push out a solution right away for this. I think that the best thing to do would be to link the urls using the link icon; at least for the time being.

Thanks do much for your help, Michael! I’ll keep an eye on the links. We have over 1000 on the site, so we won’t be able to convert them all at one time.
I’ll keep you posted if any additional issues pop up.
