spacing out images

    Hello

    I would like to have distinct rows of images with text to the side (not captions). the pictures should alternative left and right to give a zig zag down the page. To achieve this I have aligned the first image left and the second image right and so on.

    What I get is a mess of images and text. If in visual editor I hit return several times at the top of the second piece of text, it looks okay. But not when I preview. I have also tried putting <p></p> around my text in the html editor. The tags disappear when I save. I have also added
    which disappears and   which is showing up as text in the preview.

    I found a workaround using tables, but would rather not if that is possible?
