Spacing per line is too much

How do I stop the stop the extra line spacing in Visual (and Text) mode?
When I paste from Word into WordPress, I have much more extra space added than I desire and the results in Preview and Publish mode is too much space.
    – Then, the extra space between paragraphs that I want keep getting wiped out.
    – Also, I’m losing my indents throughout…

I have modified the line spacing multiple times in Word and tried pasting it again, is there something in WordPress I am missing?
See the most recent posting at my blog please, thanks.

You need to be cautious and use the correct approach when copying and pasting from any document created in a word processor.

Microsoft Word is a word processing program that’s not compliant with web standards. The result of copy and pasting from Microsoft Word into the Tiny MCE editor in WordPress blogs can be unexpected, and contain a lot of formatting code that’s not compliant unless you know how to use the built-in features in the Visual editor for using Word cleanly. http://support.wordpress.com/microsoft-word/

Go here and enable this > Settings > Writing
    Formatting
_ WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically
    “save changes”

I recommend using Windows Live Writer for posting to your blog > http://en.support.wordpress.com/xml-rpc/windows-live-writer/

Thank you. I had not thought to use Windows Live Writer previously.

Hmmm, that is still not what it should it be. It is not really WSYIWYG. I still have to monkey around with the content – for example, I still cannot get the text to size 10 or 12 font, it stays at 7.8 no matter what I select, while I can change what kind of font (Tahoma, etc.) I choose.

I paste Word content into Notepad, which guarantees the loss of all formatting and then into WLW.

Spacing also is still off – It’s like I’m forced to use line spacing option of 12 rather than 4 or 5 as I wish in Word…
I have to add a line with the enter key, then back space to get the proper spacing.

And no, sorry, I’m not a newbie to software – I’ve taught people to use MultiMate and Multicalc (mid-80s) when they were introduced and up through WordPerfect and all versions of Word.

There seems to be no line spacing options at all in WLW, other than paragraph and heading formats.
Yet, here in this reply window, I get perfect spacing, no extra spacing.

Or, is there something else I’m still missing…? I do not mind asking questions or following advice from anyone – I’m always game to have an open ear for something that works.

    Thanks again, Patrick

    Also set

Dashboard >> Settings >Writing >> WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically – remember to save changes (bottom of the page)

Then try making a small change in a Post and save changes
