I know you are going to find this hard to believe but most of us would respond to your six spam a day with “don’t I wish”. You see many of us remove 6-7 pages of spam every day from our Akismet spam filters. The important thing is not to delete spam but to mark it as spam so Akismet learns. It takes several times of marking the same spammer address over and over again until Akismet learns.
do you know why they it is getting all that?
Spammers are everywhere and never miss an opportunity to add a blog address or an email address to their list. They get paid to send unwanted mail to people so that’s their primary motivation.
Get a throw-away email address free from Yahoo or Hotmail that’s only for your blog and do not use any real information like your name in it.
Don’t post an email address that looks like this example (email visible only to moderators and staff) instead post one that looks like teenfg at isp dot net and you will give the spam bot spiders nothing to work with.
Don’t post comments with links in them unless you know for sure you want to send your readers to them. If you’re not sure then break the links before you post the comment.

I would love the administrator choice to be able to BLOCKcomments with ANY LINKS AT ALL. I don’t need links in comments. If they want to share a link, they can email me! Oh, please, oh, please! It’s getting so bad I’m tempted to abandon ship.

Allowing no links in comments is no problem. I tested this and it works on my blog.
You can set this up here -> Options -> Discussion
scroll down until you see “Comment Moderation” and then change the 2 links to 0 links and click “Update Options” to save.Comment Moderation
Hold a comment in the queue if it contains ___ or more links. (A common characteristic of comment spam is a large number of hyperlinks.)HTH and happy blogging. :)
