Spam

  Hi There,

  I have been getting an awful lot of spam comments on the blog post “After the magic cast on”. I get anywhere between 5-10 spam comments a day. I have the Akismet Widget, but it doesn’t appear to be working anymore :-/ Any ideas?

  Hi there,

  Are you saying that you’re getting un-caught spam (so spam that is getting through to your inbox) or stuff that is going in to the spam folder?

  If it is going into the spam folder, then it’s working as intended, but if it’s going in to your inbox that’s not as good. Of course spammers are always adjusting their routes of attack, so if you wouldn’t mind would you please make sure you hit the “Spam” link on each of those messages? It will help us update our spam algorithms and catch more spam going forward (plus it will send those messages to the spam folder for you).

  It is going right into my inbox and showing up on my blog under “comments wait to be approved.”

  I’m sorry to hear that! Would you definitely mark all of those as spam so that our systems can add information from those messages? Unfortunately there isn’t much else we can do other than train the system to recognize other spam attack vectors.

  Yes, I mark them as spam every time. Hopefully the system will recognize the spam vectors soon. Luckily they all se to be coming from a small handful of vectors as the messages frequently repeat themselves.
