  Thank you!
  I’ve never had any problems with this before and all of a sudden I get loads of fake comments. It started yesterday. I followed the instructions in the link and hope it will help.

  Unfortunatly it did not work, the spam comments are still dropping in.

  I can see in the forum that I am not alone with this problem and that it started for others also yesterday. I found another thread on the same topic.

  Go into My Site > Settings, Discussion Tab

  You can disable the comments on future posts there if you turn off ‘Allow people to post comments on new articles’.

  Also you can enable ‘Comment must be manually approved’ under the ‘Before a comment appears’ section.

  Hi!

  I already have these settings by default, so the comments are not published if I don’t approve them manually. But it is still a problem that I suddenly recieve loads of e-mails about fake comments. The real ones may disapear among the others. Something has clearly happened to the site last night. I’m obviously not alone with this problem.

  Have you enabled: ‘Users must be registered and logged in to comment’?
  That way you can have it on record who was spamming you and take action accordingly.

  Have you tried creating a comment blacklist? ( you can block names, URLs, IPs)
  This way the comments which contain the blacklist item(s) will be put in to trash straight away.

  Please make sure to mark those comments as spam instead of just deleting them. Our Akismet anti-spam engine tries to learn from the pattern of comments that are marked as spam.

  Yes I’ve been pushing the spam button more than 20 times today. Spamming ended a few hours ago so I assume the problem is solved. 😊
