Spam

Just wanted you to know that within the last week quite a bit is coming in from this location; Gran Canaria. Or the Canary Islands. The spam program is working at catching this. But since just in the last week I’ve had about five more or less from this same location I thought you would want to know.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

How were you able to check the location? Since last night, I’ve had no less than 12 spam comments left to various posts of mine. I’ve flagged them all but after getting next to none for years now and then suddenly getting so many, I’m wondering what changed.

When you go to spam, just like any other comment there is an http location (for spam usually false or leading to nothing of value) and an email address – probably spoofed.

Here is an example. I had deleted the others.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gran_Canaria/074/7
when you ‘click’ it – it comes up as a 404

some of the other addresses for the ‘spam’ email were from Gran Canaria.
This one however has this: @fly.cogmailbox.com – I’m not even sure if that is real.

    Got another one from: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gran_Canaria/074/7
    Still comes up as a 404 – non-existent link.
So someone is spoofing Wiki Gran Canaria and email addresses.
May 23, 2017 – Same .com for mail.
I doubt the email is real because the female name doesn’t match up with male name at the email address for fly.cog
The last one had a male name (ID) and a female (name in the address).
I don’t trust any emails that don’t relate to the blog. Though I know some folks do have different names for blogs and their emails.

Three more spams today…non from Gran Canaria.
But unrepeatable spam so I just deleted them.
