  spam has taken over my blog,

  I have over 800 spam comments in my comments I have already deleted 400 this week.

  Don’t delete them: mark them as Spam. When you mark them as spam, Akismet learns from that and the next time someone tries to spam you like that, it automatically goes in the spam folder.

  Ive also been getting this lately, over the past couple of weeks I’d say. I always mark them as spam but they still keep getting through. They are coming through as if they are linked to a Facebook profile, although I’m obviously not clicking the link. Askimet don’t seem to be picking them up and I am not sure why!!

  Look at the dates of the posts these are being applied to. I found that most of it was hitting older posts for some reason.

  As an experiment, I set to auto-close comments on posts older the 10 days. That may not work for you if you get legitimate comments on older posts.

  Dashboard >> Settings >> Discussion >> Automatically close comments on articles older than XX days

  Perhaps you should disable commenting with a Facebook ID then.

  Settings->Discussion. You can set who is allowed to post comments there.

  I’ve now set it so I have to approve all comments. At least they won’t sit there until I check them!
