Looks like spam… I’m not sure what en.gravatar.com is, but I thought it was odd that a second after I posted at 0130 EST all three of these blogers liked my posts with “interesting” websites attached.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

If you are having issues with likes on an individual post or page, you can turn them off.

Here’s our documentation on Likes, including instructions on how to manage them:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/likes/

Gravatar is our system for custom avatars. The links you get when you click on their Gravatars are to the users’ individual Gravatar sites.

Don’t think you fully understood what I was getting at. Click on the links above (the gravatar profile), go to the bottom of the page where their “Individual Gravatar Sites” are, and look at what they are.

Maybe I’m Jaded from countless internet scam sites, but whatever. If I’m wrong then I apologize and appreciate they enjoyed my work. If there was an actual BLOG associated with their link it would have been possible to explore theirs as well.

    Hi again,

Users can create Gravatar accounts to use when liking or commenting on WordPress (and other) blogs without having a blog hosted on WordPress.com. The fact that they do not have a blog does not mean they are spammers.

That’s good to know. At least now I know they are using a legitimate site.

However… am I wrong that the sites at the bottom of their profile are spam related? I’m all for generating traffic and positive reinforcement for a job well done, I just don’t want any spam related links on my site. Even if it makes the article “look better” to future viewers.

    My two cents though.

BTW, Read your IDL post. Not sure any protest against digital NSA surveillance is really possible since back in the 90’s e-mail was ruled the property of the company that owned the server and not subject to the same type of protection as a written, mailed, letter :/

We don’t police sites that individuals link to in their Gravatar profiles. If these Likes bother you, you can turn them off for this post.

Thanks for reading my post, which is highlighting the Internet Defense League widget we created in support of the protests on July 4th.
