Spam Attack

  Hello,

  recently my blog kochfrau.wordpress.com is attacked by thousands and thousands of spam-mails. emptying the spam file is taking a long time, the site crasheds down several time.

  How can I stop this annoying filth?

  Hi Verena – Is the spam going directly into your spam folder? If so, everything is working as intended. You don’t need to manually empty the spam folder. You can just ignore it entirely. It’s only there in the off chance that a real comment accidentally gets flagged as spam. It auto-deletes after a certain period.

  Hi Eurello,

  yes, the spam goes into the spam folder. but it doesn’t get emptied automatically. It just is getting fatter and fatter.

  what exacetely is a certain period. To go through thousands of spam-mails inorder to check whether there is a real comment as you suggest doesn’t seem very userfriendly to me.

  Hi there – It’s meant to empty every 30 days. Does it not do that?

  You do not need to go through them to check for real comments; it’s just held there for 30 days just in case. It’s the same as the spam folder in your email client.
