Spam by the numbers…
-
I get more and more spam. I have just deleted almost 500 spam-comments. They have arrived within a period of only 15 hours. They are about cars, medicine and a lot of odd ones that have long urls with many numbers and a few letters.
What do I do? Can I stop that?
There is a need for a feature, that allows you to delete spam page by page. It is to much to check 500 spam-comments without a break. As it is now, you can only delete all or nothing. So once you have started to check the spam, you have to work through all of them.
Was that an idea, you think?

This totally doesn’t solve the problem, but it might make it a little easier:
http://engtech.wordpress.com/tools/wordpress/akismet-auntie-spam/I use this script, and i love it.
Edit:
From engtech:What It Does
* Moves navigation bar to the bottom instead of the top.
* Reduces text size.
* Truncates long comments.
* Click to open a popup with full comment.The current Akismet spam review page is not very useful when you get large amounts of spam because you spend too much time scrolling. My 15 day queue has over 2900 spam messages at the moment — and my blog isn’t even that popular.
This script increases the amount of text you can see on one page, so less time is spent scrolling to reduce the time spent reviewing the spam queue.

Gotta admit that I just give it a casual scan and then hit Delete All. I usually check every day though.

I’m giving “turning off comments on older posts” a try. I’m at about 1500 spam a day without it. I’ll post the results in about a month.
