Spam Catching….
-
I’ve had readers (innocent) make comments that got marked as spam.
Without knowing the comment in question, the IP it came from, etc. there’s little we can help with.

“I politely point out that I am not one of the “you guys”. I’m just a volenteer who helps out here. I am not a member of Automattic staff.”
Sorry. I didn’t know what the status for moderators was– that was an incorrect assumption for me to make.
“Plus what would stop me from blocking 63.68.89.*, your IP address? Or TT’s? Or anyone elses here? Heck, I’d love to see all of the IP addresses assigned to Midland, Texas dropped into a blackhole because of an idiot who lives there but that would be blocking every body else who lives there.”
You can block me and the entire block of IPs that are related to me. It wouldn’t matter to me.
“I Polielty [sic] point out the “Mass Edit Mode” link and the “Mark Checked Comments as Spam” button when you visit Dashboard -> Manage -> Comments. It appears you may have missed it.”
I will politely tell you that I haven’t, and that my spam comments have dwindled down to a manageable amount (<1 per day) since my last post in this forum. Thanks.
“You are marking them as spam, right? That’s how Akismet learns.”
Indeed I am.

Timethief:
I found that by changing to requiring an email address and to requiring moderation for all comments my spammer/stalker gave up.
FYI, this morning I had four waiting for moderation, two of which had the word ‘cialis’ in the clear, in the subject line. Also, all the spam I’ve seen have email addresses, so requiring it is less than effective. It simply means you get to moderate the spam, instead of removing it.
An “Enter these random, wavy letters and numbers” security check works well to make sure there’s a human at the other end… at a keyboard. Unfortunately, WordPress isn’t offering it.
