Spam Comments

I keep receiving several hundreds of spam comments a week and it gets quite tiresome to see spam filled with a bunch of useless comments. All the user profiles seem connected to some sort of car insurance, but are spam profiles. Is there anyway to protect my blog from further such comments, as the sheer number of them is in itself rather annoying.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello naadiasehar21!
Thank you for updating us, are the comments which are received are in the Spam Folder? Or they are in Comments? If they are in Spam Akismet is doing its job correctly, if they are in the Comment Moderation queue you can mark them as Spam, and don’t delete them.
You can read more in this support document
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/unwanted-comments/

If they are in the moderation queue, you start marking them as Spam Akismet can learn about it and they should be in control.
Let us know how it goes further.. !

Same here… I am wondering what has happened, since Akismet used to be very good as this. Especially when it’s obvious spam with terms like insurance etc in the topic or email adress.

Of course, they are not in the moderation queue – I think that goes for the topic starter as well – but they are annoying even in the spam folder. How can you look through them to see if one comment got accidentally marked as spam ? Right – almost impossible…

Hi, yes they are in the Spam folder, but as Oliver mentioned it is seriously annoying to have them accumulate and there is absolutely no way to check if there are any accidentally marked as Spam.

Is there anyway to eliminate these kind of spam comments coming in at all?

Akismet is really very good at identifying spam comments and putting them in the Spam folder. Spammers do change tactics from time to time so there is a learning curve involved for Akismet when they do.

If the spam comments are in your Spam folder, then as @pavanraheja said, Akismet is doing its job. If you find those comments in your Pending approval folder is when you can help by marking those spam comments as spam so that Akismet learns.

If you are working in the WP Admin dashboard (which it sounds like you are) there is also a “Check for Spam” button when you are on the Pending approval tab in Comments. This can be helpful if you get a lot of Pending comments which need review.

Spam comments are automatically deleted after 30 days, but you can also click the Empty Spam button.

You don’t see the most pervasive and dangerous spam (virus links, etc.). That is automatically deleted by Akismet even before it reaches your comment moderation screen.
