Spam Comments – Can no longer view and decide to approve or not

    Recently, the last month or so, I lost the ability to review & approve or not, comments marked as spam.

    I can see the spam count increasing everyday but suddenly the spam comments box is always empty. (There were a total of 50 spam comments for March when I checked this morning, 48 yesterday.)

    What changed? Can you fix this so I can continue to review them.

    Please go here > Settings > Discussion and confirm your settings under “Comment Moderation” http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#comment-moderation

    I have rechecked the discussion settings today and found nothing that looks to be contributing to this problem.

    Can you all help with this?

    Hi there – are you able to see a comment marked as Spam in the queue now?

    Did you only recently check the box next to “Don’t discard spam on old posts” in Settings > Discussion?

    If that wasn’t checked before, then spam comments on old posts would have been discarded automatically.

    Hi,

    Thanks for responding. I saw one comment in the spam queue (yesterday, I think). However, I had been seeing spam comments on a regular basis and then (without any changes by me) realized that the queue had suddenly been empty every time I went in. That started in February, I think.

    Before I wrote to you all, I checked the settings and saw nothing that should be in the way of the comments being posted. But again they were posting regularly and just stopped – no changes by me.

    Since contacting you, I have made some adjustments and now the spam count (not spam in the queue) seems to be holding at 309 for March which seems odd to me when it has been increasing daily (it seems) since I started this blog.

    Appreciate your help.

    Spam doesn’t necessarily always come at a consistent rate on any given site. We can’t find any technical reason on your site why spam comments would have slowed down, so it looks like there is nothing technically wrong in this case.
