spam comments in Cyrillic text

  I have recently been getting a lot of spam comments that are not recognized by Akismet. Virtually all of these are in Cyrillic script. Until about 2-3 weeks, these never got through the Akismet filter. Now I get at least one email notification per day that someone has ‘commented’, and I have to assign it as ‘spam’ myself. While this is not [yet] onerous, it is a pain. Has the filter changed, or does it need to be updated? Why are these getting through now? How do I filter spam to automatically mark messages in Cyrillic as spam? I don’t speak the language, but suspect they are everyone of them actual spam.
