Spam comments on posts closed to comments?

  How do people manage to leave spam comments on posts that have been closed to comments? Akismet keeps coming up with spam and when I check the posts, just to make sure, they all have commenting turned off.

  Those will be trackbacks and not comments. In the post, you have to also turn off trackbacks as well as comments. It is under “discussion” on the right hand side when editing a post as “allow pings”.
